Wendigo
How's this strike you: a good rule of thumb in building an army with great "bang for your buck" is to spend all extra points on weapons upgrades -- NOT characters, their weapons, or vehiclers -- although, if you field vehicles, the same rule applies. E.g. 250 points to spend on CSM: 8-10 Marines, 2X Plasma or Melta or Flamer or 1 Plasma + 1 Lasc + Asp. Ch. with combi-bolter E.g. 5 Chaos Terminators with Combi-meltas + power fists E.g. 3 Chaos Bikers with 2 Melta guns; Asp Ch with combi-melta Wendigo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152658-army-building-theory-max-the-weapons-upgrades/ Share on other sites

the jeske
aside for the 10 man csm with2 specials the other two units shown here are rather a bad example of "good bang for one buck". also the codex is build that way that when all the options are optimal there is no pts left [or its like 1-3pts] , only when you used sub standart stuff there are left over pts . if that happens giving combis to asp champions or taking extra termis for the 3 man squads[that has to be a lot of left over pts for that to happen] is the most optimal option. CelestialSon
8 meltaguns in 4 CSM squads in rhinos has yet to fail me. Granted, they have asp champs with power fists and combi flamers to meet any infantry threats, but it doesn't take min/maxing to get the job done. One might argue that a few CSM squads and a vindicator or defiler amounts up to more than all the min maxing you could pull for the same points, bearing in minds things like numbers, kill points and "what if" scenarios. The nice thing is that it seems like alot of chaos units come out to similar costs doing the same things, HQs included. This means slight tweeks rather than hard and fast min/max= "da best" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152658-army-building-theory-max-the-weapons-upgrades/#findComment-1778691 Share on other sites
