First ever marine squad done!

My First ever marine squad done! (finally)

They are Battle for maccrage marines (except the sarge and heavy), and i can firmly state that the BFM sculpts bite, and bite hard at that. However, I think these turned out ok.

Comments and crits welcome of course.

Thanks

For a second they didn't load. But to the right of the ad's the image eventually came up.

As for the Models, they are not to shabby! Especially for a first squad, very nice.

The colors are unique aswell, only thing i'd suggest is to give em a quick wash. Seems in some areas the gold was splashed on pretty heavy.

Oh, look at that, they did load eventually, just give it a few mins.

They look great, a lot of potential there. I personally do not think that the glowing eyes suit the gold much. But that could just be me. Also, i think that they could look a lot better if you broke up the gold on the faces, painting the grill and the side tubes, and maybe the 'ears'. At the moment the gold just seems to be a bit too solid. Some black/brown lining could also help this.

Do you wash you gold? and if so what do you wash it with?

Azadul

Thanks for all the replies!

@ Azadul

Formula for gold is

Undercoat : Black

1st basecoat : Dwarf bronze

2nd Basecoat : shining gold

Wash : Gryphone Sepia

Highlight : Burnished gold

Thanks for the comment about painting the grilles, I might give that a bit of a shot with my next batch (still have 50 more tac marines unpainted...)

@ Kurasake and Azadul

Dont liek the green eh? Well the only one I tried the glow effect on was the sarge with power sword, and I will admit its not great, but not horrible either. I don't think I'm going to do any other glow effects on the basic guys (maybe some of my special chars). Or is it the green eyes on all of them you think needs to be changed? And if so, what color do you think would match better?

Well, actually now that you mention it i would actually keep the green.

It is good, but do it a lot darker. Dark Angels green followed by 2 highlights, goblin green and scorpion green. Then and a small white dot near the back of the lense.

Also i think that green should be used more throughout the miniatures. I have been looking at the best way to do this and the only way that i can think of it to:

1 - Paint part of the bolters (you may have seen many other painters paint the parts i am talking about) in the same dark green as the eyes.

2 - The lining on the cloak, the same green, i am not completely certain about this though. Maybe do a test first. It may turn out that the bolters provide enough green.

I think that this will make your models look absolutely stunning.

Oh, and i just noticed, when you are doing the gold on the back packs, try to avoid getting it in the holes, these are important to keep dark as it breaks up an others solid/plain colour.

Good luck with the rest of your models!

Cheers,

Azadul
