Varney
I've scoped through their entry numerous times, but does it say anywhere in the codex that a Command Squad MUST accompany its Captain? Or can they be deployed separately, while the Cap'n is zipping aroung somewhere else with his Jump Pack? The same also applies to the Chapter Master and his Honour Guard. Is this question addressed in some FAQ I've missed? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152691-commands-squads/ Share on other sites
Eddie Orlock
Nope, Captains are now totally independant of their command sections. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152691-commands-squads/#findComment-1778818 Share on other sites

Captain Danosef
As EO mentioned, they are independant. This has the advantage of being able to split them and have them tackle seperate threats as required, but also means that they don't count as a Retinue - which is what you were obviously thinking they should be. Now if the Captain accompanies his Command Squad into CC, he can be picked out and killed off without the Command Squad being able to do anything to help. If they were a Retinue they could act as a meatshield for him. Six of one and half a dozen of the other ...
