Librarian from Ultramarine Chapter

I have finished work on this miniature for a long time. And even has had time to participate in one competition with it, however the librarian was not entered in a competition theme. ;)

On this miniature I have tried to use radical system of shading. Not a black paint, but a red. Estimate my work please. Comments are welcomed as always.

I think it works to a degree, but red isn't a natural shadow color. True shadows are more bluish than black and definitely not usually red. I see that you painted a lens on the plasma gun, but wouldn't that be problematic since plasma is more of a superheated gas than a light energy?

I'm being deliberatly picky as I think that you're looking for critical feedback - this is a compliment as the work you've produced here is of a very high standard. The colours are very nicely blended but comparing the front robes to those on the back, the rear robes look unfinished in comparison. The NMM steel/metal looks lovely and looks more realistic than the gold on the shoulderpad rim. The red on the wires on the power weapon also look a little flat.

Like I said earlier - I'm being incredibly picky as you have a lot of potential and it's easy for me to see this piece fresh and spot things than you who spent a long time painting this. This isn't to take away anything from your work here as I wouldn't be able to produce something of this standard.

Overall I'd give this a solid 8.5 out of ten.
