Need names

Bearboy

Recommended Posts

I'm down to the last part of painting up my "Assault on Black Reach" set and I need 3 names.

So I need 3 relativly short names to paint on their scroll thingies.

Presumably you're after good Norse names? :-)

Here's a few:

Lars, Erik, Bengt, Kurt, Johan, Esben, Bjørn, Klaus, Viggo, Henrik, Tyr, Thor (Yes, it's also a boy's name in Scandinavia), Carl and all the names from the norse pantheon...

Wasn't there some fluff about the great Wolf89 battling against millions of orkies crushing them all? then dawning dreadnought armor and smashin' stuff?... need a Rune Lord over here... :eek

I usually go with sites similar to what Jonny posted, not sure if I've used this one yet but it looks really good. As for how I paint them, I usually use black ink (can you get this anymore?) with a fine-tip brush and carefully apply it, it gives for a more "scroll" like writing. If I'm writing on a base (like Omar on my WGBL's TDA base) then I just use normal paints with a fine tipped brush (not as fine as the one I used for the inks...).

I'll give you the numbers, for inks and fine detailing painting on shoulders and whatnot, I use 18/0 (american painter, 4350 liner). For bases, I use 10/0 (american painter, 4650 spotter).

if your talking about ranulf the wolf guard your close.

it was many a centineal ago when the wolves were making a trap for the orks that had beaten them *so the orks thought as is the way of those beasties. however they did not expect ranulf to be there. aye the wolves were making their way down a ravine with the orks in hot pursuit. however much to the orks dismay there was lava flow ahead and they couldnt cross it. so ranulf being the kind wolf he was pushed a land raider into the flow to allow his brothers a chance to get across and so that the orks could follow. however ranulf had a better plan. he and his pack mates stayed behind to make sure the orks didnt fall in the lava. how nice of good ole ranulf. he was ever so helpful to! he made sure that not a single living ork fell into the lava.

they even had a great big ole party.

well some time had passed and the wolves came back looking for ranulf. what they found was ranulf passed out *dead* on a giant throne of ork bodies. apparently the orks respected ranulf's party *fighting if you havent figured it out by now* skills soo much they built a throne of their dead and placed him ontop.

sorry just got what you were saying wolf89.

if you have access to them get some of those fine tip sharpies. that should work.

My venerable dreadnought has a most special name, and I would like to share it with you incase you wish to use it. Now, you have to save it for a dread that smashes enemies with huge amounts of anger and succeeds often.....

Managarm

(text from an english translation of Ragna Rok and the fate of the gods)

And the third winter was called the Winter of the Wolf. Then the ancient witch who lived in the Ironwood fed the Wolf Managarm on unburied men, and on the corpses of those who fell in battle. Mightily grew and flourished the wolf that was to be the devourer of Mani, the moon. The Heroes in Valhall would find their seats splashed with the blood that Managarm dashed from his jaws; this was a sign to the Gods that the time of the last battle was approaching.

He eats the moon and spills blood in valhalla, the sacred hall of the most worthy warriors. Awesome? yes.

EDIT::: because I looked it up a bit more right now, Managarm is the name given to the wolf, that During the three winters leading to the endless winter of ragnarok, eats the sun, and after, the suns brother the moon. And causes the world tree to shake in fear, which sets free the wolf Fenrir. the wolf Fenrir then destroys the gods Baldr, Odin, and is mutually ended in a bout with Thor. Pretty much, managarm is the wolf that starts the end of the world, and fenrir (fenris anyone?) is the one that makes it happen with a snake named Jormungandr.

There's a decent all encompassing breakdown on wikipedia for anyone curios, but it doesn't list all the names of all the characters.

I paint my names on the back of bases, so I can see them for easy identification.

Alternately, if there's a scroll somewhere on the model, I'll paint the name there.

Names I've put on (not all Norse, but Norse/Germanic sounding enough)

Aesir, Loki, Lars, Hrolf, Hrothgar (it's good to be the king), Strybjorn, Nils, Baldur, Odin, Helghast, Toki, Skwisgar, Grishnak, basically anyone from a death metal/black metal band works too.
