Scouts OBEL & outflank

As the rules state you have to declare you have outflanking reserves during the deployment phase, does OBEL count as an ouflanking manuver since it is by definition coming from a unexpected direction.

I ask because I want to be fair on how I play my scouts, but also keep em as versital as possible. Meaning if I declare an outflanking reserved unit, can I still OBEL them or am I stuck with rolling a die for outflanking?

When I played my scouts I told him what they were during the deployment phase so that he knew what all of my forces were, although I left out the table edge they were coming from since I didn't want to give that away (I think that was ok since an opponent wouldn't know the table edge an outflanking scout unit would come from till after the dice roll, right before the placement anyways....). I'm just a Blood Claw though so I am probibly doing something wrong =P

As every single writing teacher I've had said-

"Always assume anyone you are writing to is an idiot in regards to the subject. Spell it out so they don't screw it up."

This applies even more so on the Internet.

Some signature I've seen on a forum (maybe here) is also good:

"Never assume. You make an ass out of you and me if you do."

;)

Amen....my last game my Scouts OBEL'd right behind a Predator (up to the 1" stopping point, they coulda put a potato in the exhaust pipe they popped in so close) but due to a couple bad "wound"ing rolls and some VERY GOOD damage rolls made by my opponent the tank never got more than a stunned state.
Coorect me if i"m wrong but don't you roll the damage rolls for your our hits/ pens. Also, you8 have to state that your scouts are in reserve, I don't think you have to decide outflank vs. OBEL until you rol for the reserve. I could be wrong but it has never come up because I always OBEL.

Still have not got an answer to my question, let me restate it in a different way.

At the beginning of a game you and your opponent are deploying your forces; it is at this time you have to declare you will be holding you scouts in reserve to perform an outflanking maneuver. Yes, if you plan on using the outflanking maneuver, the rule states you must announce it during the deployment phase. OBEL you just have to declare you have scouts in reserve.

My question is this. If I say I am going to use the outflank rule, can I instead use the OBEL without penalty? Why you ask, for me there has been a few times where coming in from the enemies table edge has left me with nothing to shoot or assault because he is over on my edge and for these cases if it doesn't matter why not give yourself all the options and declare an outflanking maneuver.

This is important for tournament play as I want to maximize all the options I can for a tactical edge.

*Take this with caution as I don't have the rulebook on me but I will check when I get home in about 4 hours*

I would have to say you don't have to declare they're OBEL'ing. I would also say if you declare they're outflanking then you HAVE to outflank with them. This is mainly due to my belief that the BBB says something about "when you declare you're outflanking then you arrive via outflanking". If it just says something like "if you're holding a unit in reserve to outflank" I think you'd also have to outflank. Granted I'll need to see for myself word for word to help back this claim up.

Otherwise, I'd say you should always say you're outflanking, then you have an effective 12" zone around the whole table that your opponent will try to avoid more than normal which would be nice for vindi's to have a bunched up enemy in the center. :tu:
