Rapid firing a combi-plasma?

In the write up for combi-weapons from the chaos codex is states:

 

"This weapon carries limited ammunition, allowing the weapon a single shot, perfect for shots of opportunity."

 

But, plasma guns are assault 2. Does the wording in the write-up prevent me from rapid firing my combi-plas?

you can fire the weapon once per game, in either fire mode, rapid or normal

oh, sorry that was just a typing mistake. Plasma guns are indeed rapid fire and not assault 2.

 

But isn't firing them twice contrary to what the book says? I plan on bringing combi-plasmas to a campaign game, and don't want to seem like i'm cheating anyone.

Combi weapons have been able to rapid fire for a VERY long time, I doubt anyone is going to pull you up on it just because the Chaos rulebook was written by a 2yr old with an imaginary friend telling him to cut himself.

 

if people think your cheating them, then there probably bad sports in the first place, its one of those screw the rulebook common sense rules situations, if everyone else can rapid fire them, so can you

If you think it will help, you can point to the new SM codex, pg. 97 as precedent, "... a combi-Plasma gun can, of course, Rapid Fire...". Not that rules in one codex affect another, but it lends support.

You dont even need to look in another codex - the rules themselves tell you everyhting you need to know.

 

1 - each normal model may SHOOT ONCE per turn.

 

2 - each model ROLLS A NUMBER OF DICE equal to the category of the weapon.

 

What does this mean for rapid fire combi weapons?

 

They may fire the weapon ONCE per game BUT ROLL a number of dice equal to the category.

 

Thing to remeber is that shooting a weapon and the number of dice you roll are two difrent things although they are generally considered a combined step.

i.e a heavy bolter can only shoot once per turn, but fires 3 rounds per shot.
