Weathered white scars dread

Thought I'd try my hand at painting a new army while waiting getting fed up waiting for the space wolves codex to be updated. Thought i'd do white scars and weather them heavily to tie in with the campaign army idea of them. Let me know what you think!? ;)

It looks excellent.

Before anyone else mentions it and may or may not be condescending, White Scars don't have dreads. Doesn't mean anything though, because you paid for it, it's your miniature, do with it whatever you like. This may or may not be outdated fluff though.

The weathering looks great and the overall apperence of the model is good. However, there are two things I would do to make it even better.

1. Add a little battle damage. It seems odd that a dreadnought that has been in battle long enough to get that dirty has not recieved a single scratch to the paintjob. Worn paint around the edges and maybe a few bulletmarks would be nice.

2. Add some more red. A few more red details would bring more contrast the the colour scheme and make it look better IMHO.

But as I said, it looks good already. Those are just suggestions of things I think would make it even better.

Excellent weathweing!

I'd vote against adding more red. The one thing That's not clear from the photos is the lightninc on the left legplate, if the white spot on the first pic' is paint chip than it's okish, if its glance because of clear surface (decal?) try to do something about it. An overall comment: If you've used decals, congratulations for the smooth blending with the painted surfacees; If you've freehanded/stenciled it congratulations for the level of the finish.

Ave! Sati

Thanks guys,

Yeah I am aware there are no battle marks as such.. realised i hadn't done it after spraying the model got to a stage where i didn't want to ruin what i'd done by damaging it... I may just bite the bullet and do it. I know the base needs more work, the markings are a mix of decals and freehand (stencils infact) eg the red lightning was stenciled then the skull decal put over the top.. i find to blend in decals it helps to varnish them, then paint over them where possible with the colour either underneath or of the decal, this tends to get rid of some of the shiny-ness which I agree isn't a desirable thing.

Thanks for the comments guys! i've got lots more to do even a converted moondrakkon :P

Stencils? That sounds interesting. I've never heard of anybody using stencils in such a small scale. Could you write a few words about your methods?

And great dread. It doesn't need more red, imho.

No probs! well for example the red lightning (on both the leg and the body) i drew onto the a postit note (over the sticky part) the shape of the lightning, its a low stick tape effectively you can get low stick masking tape.. same thing really. then cut out the shape with a knife, and cut the area down so that it would fit onto the smaller sections of the model, then pressing firmly in place i used a sponge to sponge on red paint... you can use a brush you just have to be careful you don't slide under the stencil. and thats it basically... leave it to dry for a min or two and pull it off.. the low tack of the tape/postit doesn't pull the paint off.... the decal was added on top, matt varnished to seal, then the edges of the decal painted the colours they cover (ie white over the skull area and red where it covered the lightning) to take off the shine of the decal.

Hope this helps!
