Grantyr Greymantle
I've read, online, that the Wolf Brothers were either exterminated, disappeared into the Warp or disbanded. Can anyone point me to where, in GW print, the official story of what happened to them is? or is it one of those mysterious stories that is spoken of but never written anywhere and therefore rumors/gossip take on the appearance of truth but we don't know for sure what really happened? Thanks in advance! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152951-wolf-brothers/ Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
There is not much about them as you already know. Only a short mentioning in the 2nd Ed C:SW. I heared that they´re also mentioned in the Storm of Iron novel. The last prove that they still existing is the Apocalypse book. A pack of them is listed with a Chaos Lord. That´s all i can remember that i had ever read about them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152951-wolf-brothers/#findComment-1782289 Share on other sites
Vassakov
It's also in the Index Astartes database, which can be found in any Codex Space Marines (V. 5 pg 8) though no mention of their destruction is made. It is widely believed they were both founded and destroyed shortly after the heresy but after the scouring - though this is conjecture on our part. Apocalypse implies some members of the chapter remain at large and have thrown themselves in with the Red Corsairs. muzzyman1981
I would have to agree with Vass....it would stand to reason not EVERY Wolf Brother (or any Chapter that has been destroyed) was actually put down, only the vast majority of them so as not to count as an effective combat unit. After that it wouldn't surprise me that they would feel disillusioned and turn to Chaos (rawr, bastards). 1000 Yard Stair
In (american) White Dwarf #245 there is a 4 page piece (pgs 32-35) on the various groups of space wolves who have seperated themselves from the chapter. Not so much successor chapters but rather great companies (Jotun Bearclaw's) or smaller warbands of Wolves who for one reason or another left Fenris to roam on their own (still in Russ's and the Emperors' service however). There is a 5 paragraph "poem" about the Wolf Brothers. In it they are described as fighting (excuse me, kicking the asses) of the eldar who then ran into a portal. The ill-fated Wolf Brothers pursued them into realms immortal and were never seen again. Hope this helps. The ill-fated Wolf Brothers was always the jump off fluff point i used for my Wolf armies, whether i used 13th company rules, the old chaos space marine dex, or the standard wolf dex. And my wolf pride refuses to acknowledge that crap johnny come lately fluff in the chaos dex about Wolf traitors. Chaos lies. Grantyr Greymantle
so, it wouldn't be entirely out of the realm of possibility to have my army be a band of Wolf Brothers that still exist and either use the 13th or standard rules to play them and call them (or at least nickname them) the Redeemed and have the "secret" behind their name be that they were Wolf Brothers that were able to survive and in fact were stronger than and overcame the "curse" that the WBs were said to have been inflicted with? I know it's a stretch, but is it at least feasible? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152951-wolf-brothers/#findComment-1782649 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Its certainly an option..... you chase dark eldar into a portal, get lost in the warp, heck maybe even encounter a 13nth co warband or two, and overcome your inner wulfen to harness its strength. Tanks dont fit well into much of the webway, and chaos tanks have demons on them *eck* so you dont run with them. Insta 13nth co rules. Excalibur
They is no mention of being destroyed, just that a huge number fell to the wolfen curse and so no other successor chapter was formed. How they are talked about leads to the idea that if not destroyed, they are a tiny fighting force and probably not on a list of active forces. GW likes to leaves things just open enough that you can create your own army based on the story. BLACK BLΠFLY
Actually the Wolf Brother in the latest short story by McNeil loses his lower jaw in a fight but it does not say that he dies. 0b  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152951-wolf-brothers/#findComment-1793222 Share on other sites
