Alman
Some of you may recogise this over on Warseer, but I thought I'd show it off to the marine inthusiasts here at the Bolter and Chainsword. Also FYI my painting is not of a fantastic standard but I think as units the army is begining to look good (no doubt much of the thanks has to go to the Bell of Lost Souls Rainbow Warriors transfers) Anyway hope you all like. I'm also trying to hammer out some fluff for the Rainbow Warriors, I know there's a lot of talk out there of Aztec and Polynesian themes, but personally I'm not too keen on that. I some how have this idea of Prism (the RW's chapter planet) having gigantic crystal mountain ranges towering above grassy plains. I also like the idea of the RW's fortress monastry being hewn out of one of these mountain, and very much like Macragge and the worlds of Ultramar, Prism being quite a forward thinking and beautiful place for the Imperium. But I wonder how I can fit this in with the whole 'records deleted' aspect of the RW's history? Enough rambling, pictures! Heru
But I wonder how I can fit this in with the whole 'records deleted' aspect of the RW's history? Yeah I'm of the same opinion as you (ie staying away from the Aztec / Polynesian themes - they just scream trying to hard to justify the name). Crystals also feature into what I'd expect to see on Prism but to me it would have been cooler just to cover the whole planet in them (sorta like that Crystal place in the Black Company Books by Glen Cook). I also spent time thinking about the records deleted aspect, my thinking was that you could go back to the Crystals perhaps somewhere on Prism there are Crystals that a sentient for some reason* and the Rainbow Warriors and / or the people of the world worshipped them or perhaps they were afraid of them and kept clear. Now you'd think some nosey Inquisitor could have stumbled upon these Crystals wanted them for himself and so attempted to get rid of the Rainbow Warriors using the Adeptus Sorotias (Sisters of Battle). Etc. You can see where I'm going with that idea. * = Some ideas for sentient Crystals 1. Crystaline Xenos (Aliens) that communicate through telepathy. 2. A Daemon / Daemon Army bound within Crystals in a single valley, having been put there because of a conflict long ago by some long forgotten race. Khrangar
So their Fortress Monestary is the Fortress of Solitude then? That's what I got from your description. The marines look quite nice, I really like the rhino. Your lines seem to be cleaner/better defined on the larger minis. Alman
Wow! From what I can see, Those Are Amazing!!! Apparently they aren't painted at best quality..but they're still outstanding! Thanks, I'm pleased with them, espically the vehicles I also spent time thinking about the records deleted aspect, my thinking was that you could go back to the Crystals perhaps somewhere on Prism there are Crystals that a sentient for some reason* and the Rainbow Warriors and / or the people of the world worshipped them or perhaps they were afraid of them and kept clear. Now you'd think some nosey Inquisitor could have stumbled upon these Crystals wanted them for himself and so attempted to get rid of the Rainbow Warriors using the Adeptus Sorotias (Sisters of Battle). Etc. You can see where I'm going with that idea. I like that idea, going along the lines of Prism being very forward for an Imperial planet (and important enough to be exempt from the normal tythes, i.e it mines the high qualitiy crystal required for las weaponry), I'm thinking the Rainbow Warriors seen themself to Prism as the Ultramarines are to Macragge aka Noble protectors, recruting from the populace individuals who are not just strong but educated. However, prehapse it turns out that there was some small Chaos cult on the world etc: (linked in with the crystal mines etc) Inquisition find out, and with the help of the RW's destroy the cult, however the Inquisitor then orders the cleansing of the captial city for whatever reason (i.e. some high ups were involved or suspected etc). The RW's feel that a) This is steping on Astartes turf, and B)A moral need to protect the inocent people that they see as their charges. Ergo, big fight between RW's and SOB's/Witch Hunters etc. RW's reduced to around 100 marines (1 companys worth), but importantly they win, and with the help of Prism's PDF etc, establish a cordon around Prism. Thus Prism is deleted from the Imperial Records etc and RW's forgotten. Over time however, with help from there Parent Legion (most likely the Smurfs again) they rebuild themself to full strength, and start interveening in conflicts around there area of the Galaxy. Hailed by the average Imperial Guardsman/citizen as hero's, but reports are begining to filter through to the Inquisition............... Anyway that a start Oh and yeah the Fortress Monastry does sound fortress of solitude esq, but I was thinking along the lines of lots of giant corinithian colums made out of crystal for the grander areas of the site, with the usual plaststeal anf rockcrete walls. Anyway thanks for all the kind words Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153011-rainbow-warriors-army-project-log/#findComment-1783849 Share on other sites
st.germaine
I'm quite impressed. This is a chapter that has received more than its share of undeserved abuse and it's nice to see another attempt at "redeeming" them. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of them and where you go with the fluff. I disagree with you completely about the Polynesian theme but they're your lads not mine. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153011-rainbow-warriors-army-project-log/#findComment-1783952 Share on other sites
averykess
Nice work there. You managed to preserve the helmet markings from RT. I have toyed with the idea of the Rainbow Warriors as well. I was going to do each type of unit in a different color based on their role, where color wavelength was matched to ideal engagement distance. For example: violet - assault indigo - scouts blue - veterans green - tactical yellow - command orange - devastators red - tanks alternately, one could assign a heirarchy to the colors and the marine's armor color would climb thru the colors. Start at one end as a scout and arrive at the other as a chapter master. helmet markings would only include those levels passed. Say the heirarchy was roygbiv, a marine at green level would have helmet stripes of red, orange, and yellow and green armor. Yogi
Great to see rainbow warriors, I also dislike the aztec theme, part of why i never did them, crystals are cool though and explain the whole rainbow part.
