ValourousHeart
I brought out my sisters again after quite almost three years for a couple of games this past weekend. My record in the past with this army had been quite abysmal, so I was worried that I would be lacking again. I would like to give thanks to several members of this forum for helping me to do well on my return. Warriorfish and Imperator Mos both offered valuable help in planning my list. I used the Imperial Armor 2 FAQ for my vehicles and their upgrade prices. My list: HQ - Cannoness - Bolt Pistol, Blessed Weapon, Cloak, Jump Pack - 116 Troops - 4 Battle Sister Squads - Vet Superior, 9 Sisters, Melta, Heavy Flamer, Book - 151 each (604) 4 Rhinos - Smoke, Search Light, Extra Armor - 50 each (200) Fast Attacks - Seraphim Squad - Vet Superior, 8 Seraphim, 2 Flamers, Melta Bombs, Eviscerator, Book - 288 Heavy Support - 2 Exoccist - Smoke, Sarch Light, Storm Bolter - 145 each (290) 1498 pts 7 Faith Points 4 Scoring Units 12 Kill Pts I played 2 games this weekend and ended up drawing them both, which seems to me impressive considering both the lists I faced combined with the missions played and my own inexperience with with my list. Game 1 - vs Necrons Dawn of War / Annihilation His List: Lord - Gaze of Flame, War Scythe, Orb 3 Wraiths 2 x 30 Warriors 7 Scarabs 3 Heavy Destoyers Monolith Surprisingly neither of us was able to wipe out a unit until the last turn, in which we both wiped out 1 unit. A frightening, yet thankfully ineffective, was on turn 2 the monolith landed right in my lines, in range of everyone of my units. Fortunately for me either he failed to wound/penetrate or I made all of my saves. It was also fortunate because it blocked LOS from his Heavy Destroyers to my Exorcists. The mistake I made was not moving my Exorcists to gain a bead on his warrior units, instead i wasted all of their shots on the monolith, and never did a thing to it. The MVP of game went to a veteran superior and a single battle who faced a unit of 7 scarabs in CC and survived for 4 CC phases, they just kept passing their saves. Game 2 - vs Deathing/Ravenwing Seize Ground / Pitched Battle (5 objectives) His List: Belial 3 x Deathwing Squads w/ Assault Canon (1 w/ Apoth) 6 Bikes - 2 Meltas, Power Weapon Attack Bike w/ Multi-Melta 2 x Whirlwinds Vindicator Belial and Apoth squad chose to Deep Strike, all else deployed out of site for turn 1. For some reason he chose not to use DWA, but failed every reserve roll till the last turn, which actually worked in his favor as they landed on target and swiped the tying objective. In the assault phase of that last turn he made an 11 inch move through difficult terrain with his a terminator unit in an attempt to pull one of my units off of an objective. My unit was still within scoring range at the end of combat. For this second game we checked kill points to determine who won. He killed 2 Rhinos, 1 battle sister squad and 1 exorcist, for a total of 4 KP I killed 1 whirlwind, vindicator and the attack bike for a total of 3 KP I could have had another kill point if i had finished the other whirlwind, which I left immobile and weaponless. I also missed a shot with my exorcist vs one of his terminator units, at the start of the shooting phase it had LOS, but I chose to shoot with my shorter range sisters first and due to casualties I did not have LOS when it came time to shoot, but I believe that is the same turn i destroyed his vindicator with that same exorcist. In the past I had not played very aggressively with my sisters, but I was very aggressive this go round, and that proved much more effective than I would have presumed possible a for S3 T3 army. WarriorFish
Looking at those lists I think you did well to hammer out a couple of draws. 3 years is a long time, good job! :) As for shooting a Monolith, that's a lesson worth remembering for the future. You can throw all the S8 missiles you have at it all game and still do nothing - sometimes the best course of action is ignoring something. I think that being aggressive generally serves you well, regardless of the army. If you can start dictating the course of the battle, even if only a little bit, that's a good thing. More so with SoB's, who are best suited to aggressively burning the enemy out without mercy. So congratulations on earning a couple of good draws, the only way it up as you reaquint you reacquaint yourself with the SoB! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153033-return-to-the-sisters/#findComment-1783758 Share on other sites
Imperator Mos
Sounds like you didn't have enough Heavy Support :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153033-return-to-the-sisters/#findComment-1783923 Share on other sites
ValourousHeart
Imperator Mos, You are probably right about that. But as the monolith was the only AV 14 model in any of the 5 lists, I feel that the choice to only field 2 Exos was the more friendly choice. Melissia
It's a decent choice, as long as you instead fielded another faithful squad in place of that 135 points. Eltnot
The odds of a melta or exorcist shot that has already hit, actually destroying a monolith is 1/36. Given those odds, it's probably better to shoot the crons and go for phase out instead. ValourousHeart
Yeah, that falls into the Hind-Sight being 20/20 category. I feel even worse because the lowest number of shots that the 2 exos got during that Necron game was 7. That would have been so much more useful vs. bodies. Next time they won't be getting back up so easily. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153033-return-to-the-sisters/#findComment-1787095 Share on other sites
Sister Rosette Soulknyt
hi i agree with that using an Exorcist versus a Monolith or even a Landraider is near pointless unless your rolling 6's. I prefer to target light tanks like rhino's and heavy troops with them, makes great work of Termies. Or i just love watching the opponent squirm when you shoot and destroy his HQ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153033-return-to-the-sisters/#findComment-1787275 Share on other sites
Crayoneater
Welcome Back! Saint Celestine is a sneaky unit to use with the new scenarios, she's always my most expensive unit and her abilities allow me to bank her points in most of the games. Don't overlook this model! Read thru your scenarios and marvel at the number of objectives you'll be denying your opponent! Lose two of those rhinos and park the foot sloggers on your objectives, the other two squads can roll up the field and help capture objectives. Lose the smoke and storm bolters on those exorcists, the smoke won't really help on most boards and the stormbolter is somewhat wasted on the exorcist launchers target. Use your Exorcist as a turret as long as you can! Turn one of the extra rhinos into an Immolator... think we're back at 1500pts I just have to convince yeah to rethink that Serpahim squad and you are golden!
