Fenrisian Wolf Models

Has anyone looked at GSing the Vampire Counts Dire Wolves unit at all? I always thought the poses were ideal, they're just not ideal on the whole falling-apart-at-the-seams look :tu:. Either them or the new plastic chaos hounds

I've GSed some of the old metal Chaos hounds, and they seem to be pretty nice. They're just expensive at about 7 quid a pair of them.

I've definitely taken a good, hard look at the Dire Wolves, and I believe they could be near-perfect for Cyberwolves. Pick a head that isn't too rotted, grab a wolftail from the goblin wolves, add a little green-stuff here and there, file any and all visible bones flatter, and paint them with metallic colours, and presto.

I'm also looking at buying some of the plastic chaos warhounds, I think they could easily be converted to look like proper fenrisian wolves.

Like the ones linked HERE and HERE from posts #43 and #50 on page 2 of this thread?

Yep, I think they're really good portrayals of a more dynamic Fenrisian Wolf. Those ARE the chaos warhounds though, if I'm not mistaken?

I found an idea on Youtube where someone used wargs from the Lord of the Rings Warg riders box, 5 wargs and a bunch of little orc riders which can be discarded or used for something else, I don't know

anyway, these are some big wolves and they look far more realistic than most of the stuff GW do

I'm sorry but I don't see how wargs are more realistic in any way than a goblin wolf rider wolf, also a fenrisian wolf model is more like a goblin wolf rider wolf than a warg, a warg doesn't even look like a wolf to begin with. :)

Also the scale is wrong for them... Trust me, the goblin wolf rider wolves are the way to go.

But those wolves look like cartoon puppy dogs instead of wolves. Hardly ferocious, and their fur and paws are far too...friendly. The pose is very static as well.

Planning to convert some of the dire wolves into cyberwolves for sure. Just painting the bone, rotted skin and skull/maws as metallic and adding some old small gauge insulated wire and green stuff to make them look all cybered up. 4 of them running about with the Iron Priest will make for a fun little unit.

a greater barghest is a possible option it is a D&D model, so it comes assembled AND painted. This is a good oppurtunity.
