Using blood claws effectively

You said you usually run GHs in rhinos. - This setup is the perfect compliment to that...

I run as large as I can in a Crusader. 3 PF, 1 Flamer. - A model might get dropped here or there because of needs elsewhere in lists - I find if I end up dropping a few I keep them at 11 for the 3rd fist. - Always fists never PWs. The 2 attack bonus on bloodclaws for only 12 pts per fist is too good to not take.

A Pack Leader with Lighting claws if I have the points or feel the need. (usually don't) - For the PW attacks at initiative. And the re-rolls to wound.

And almost always to lead it a Wolf Priest. WITHOUT HP&B - Mainly because, if your doing your job, he should always be engaged. - This keeps him cheap so the point sink isn't as bad, and gives the BC's LD 10 for counter-attacks after you wipe someone out. And for the HP&B to earn it's points back you have to save at least two models. - My claws in a crusader typically don't get shot at for more than one round of shooting per game. In which case it could only be used once.

And when I run pod lists I don't take them. GHs work better in pod lists.

I have seen this post and would like to add a question of my own.. Blood claws bezerk charge will not apply to anyone leading their unit but Ragnars will so what happons when he leads blood claws? can they get +4 attacks? !!!!

Im working on a nasty list.. I wont even try it if it is not legal. But it would be so sick! oh and on the counter charge!

Nope.... each one simply replaces their normal +1 attack bonus for charging, thus you get +2 either way. Ragnars abilities turn whatever unit hes within into a bigger and possibly badder bloodclaws.... its kind of a waste to put him with a unit of them.

As Grey Mage said, sadly not.

Put Ragnar with some Grey Hunters in a Land Raider and go full steam ahead...

And in bigger battles give him a retinue of Wolf Guards and watch them slice through nearly anything ;)

I've put Ragnar in a Drop Pod with Retinue:

Ragnar - 8 attacks on a charge, 9 recieving a charge

Wolf Guard Termi, Heavy Flamer, Chain Fist, WTN, WP, Runic Charm 5/6 attacks

Wolf Guard Termi, Heavy Flamer, Power Weapon, WTN, WP, Runic Charm 5/6 attacks

Wolf Guard Termi, Heavy Flamer, Power Weapon, WTN, WP, Runich Charm 5/6 attacks

Wolf Guard Termi, TLLC, WTN, WP, Runic Charm, Great Company Banner 6/7 attacks

Wolf Guard, Storm Shield, Power Axe, WTN, WP, Runic Charm 5/6 attacks

Wolf Guard, Storm Shield, Power Axe, WTN, WP, Runic Charm 5/6 attacks

Wolf Guard, Storm Shield, Power Sword, WTN, WP, Runic Charm 5/6 attacks

44 attacks on a charge

52 recieving a charge

I was charged by a Nob squad on bikes, with a Pain boy, Boss Pole and War Boss and 8 Nobz.

But, expensive as hell....

Pretty nasty indeed, but doesn't everyone just shoot the hell out of them since you can't assault out of a DP?

Or is this something you just use once per unsuspecting player who don't know any better?

It does depend on what kind of battle I'm going into, how he arrays his forces, etc. Just because I buy a drop pod doesn't necessarily mean I'll use them to deploy...

Speaking of which, I do still my drop pods whether they're occupied or not. I use them to canalize enemy forces into my terrain.
