tedwin183
I just called customer support and they told me that taking 2 pistols would not give me the benefit of having +1 attack for having two close combat weapons on, say, a captain or a chapter master. However, it says explicitly under pistol weapons page 29 second paragraph under the heading pistol weapons, last sentence, that "In addition a pistol counts as a close combat weapon in the Assault phase." The guy told me that it counts as "an additional close combat weapon" meaning, you'd have to take a "close combat weapon" first in order to benefit from taking a pistol. I am thinking this guy is wrong, seeing as the book states that a pistol is, in fact, a close combat weapon as per my evidence above. Meaning, if you took 2 of them, which captains and chapter masters can, that they would benefit from +1 attack plus the benefit of having either plasma or bolter fire, depending on the situation. Is my assessment correct or am I missing something here? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153116-taking-2-pistols/ Share on other sites
Frogstaff
The rule boys are often wrong. They have no special training in regards to answers, and are as falliable as anyone posting in response to rules questions here. King_Pash
True, but in this instance I would side with the ruleboy. You can have as many pistols as you want but you won't get an extra attack with them unless you already have a combat weapon ie. a sword/knife/rock. Reglor
Why would you side with the ruleboy. Nowhere in the rules does it say that a pistol counts as an ADDITIONAL close combat weapon. It says "In addition a pistol counts as a close combat weapon in the Assault phase." Dourine
Ask any SoB player. Two pistols grant an extra attack, this is why seraphim are pretty much our only sororitas assault unit. nighthawks
agreed- 2 pistols are equal to 2 CCWs in the assault phase. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153116-taking-2-pistols/#findComment-1784622 Share on other sites
tedwin183
Awesome. This is what I was thinking was the case. Nowhere did it say that it requires some "formal" close combat weapon before you get the benefit of having the pistol. It simply just says a pistol counts as a close combat weapon in the assault phase. I thank you all for the posts. Mostly I wanted to clarify that this is legal and would at least be somewhat useful, because I plan on modeling a guy holding two pistols out, matrix style and wanted the rules to agree with his pose. tedwin183
It is there though. Page 29 under pistol weapons and then on page 42 under fighting with two single-handed weapons. It specifically says under the heading that "some models are equipped with two single-handed weapons they can use in close combat, with the rules given below for the different possible combinations. Pistols are one-handed weapons and count as close combat weapons in the assault phase, and 2 normal close combat weapons confer +1 attack. Not sure how I'm searching for a rule that isn't there. It's in the manual, clear as crystal. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153116-taking-2-pistols/#findComment-1784714 Share on other sites
xXwarsmithXx
You dont even need to buy a captain to give him two pistols. It states quite clearly on page 128 in the new SM codex at the lower right hand of the page under option 7. "Where an option states that you may excahge one weapon and/or another, you may replace either, neither or both provided you pay the stated points cost". maniclurker
You dont even need to buy a captain to give him two pistols. What?!?! So, you can equip a model that you haven't purchased with 2 pistols... that's an interesting concept... OP: 2 pistols most certainly count as 2 ccws. I wouldn't use this combo on a captain, as you'll probably want to give him a decent melee weapon. However, for something like a vet serg, you could model him with a bolt pistol and plasma pistol. That kinda reminds me of Cypher... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153116-taking-2-pistols/#findComment-1784773 Share on other sites
tedwin183
Yeah, i was planning on using him mostly as a vert serg in a melta-heavy tac squad or possibly as a really light captain in lower point games.
