small deaemon army

Hi there,

because the players in our "gaming-group" are tired of their main armies, we decided that everybody has to start a second 500 pts. project.

I always liked the deamon style (my first army are SM: Relictors ;) ), so it was easy for me to decide which army will be mine.

Deamons.

Now i`ve bought myself the Codex and some Deamons to start with.

I got 10 Deamonettes, The Masque, 10 Horrors, A Deamonprince and Skulltaker.

Is it possible to play a 500pts. match with this guys or do i have to buy some more deamonettes or other deamons to be effectiv? Maybe some Khorne Bloodletters (to avoid a quick death of Skulltaker)?

And how should i gear the DP?

Thanks in advance

wrath

EDIT: Just startet painting them:

Unfortunately, I just did a quick calculation in my head (from memory, so I might be wrong, but I don't think I am), and that's over 500. Drop the prince for low points games, he gets expensive pretty darned quick. After you've done that you'll probably have to drop the masque too, but again, in low points games she's a points sink, that should give you less than 500 points, you should have some points left over from that that you can use to buy a couple of icons on your troops.

Very nice painting on the daemonette, I especially like the "black tear", very effective.

Does your gaming group plan to keep these armies going or just leave it at 500?

With no upgrades, your army adds up to about 650 points, so you're a tad over.

To do up 500, I'd leave the Skulltaker at home as you don't have any Bloodletters or a chariot for him to roll in. I'd stick with the Daemonettes, Masque, and cut back on the Horrors a tad (8 works) and take a cheap DP with iron hide (110 points of surprisingly killy death).

Masque

10 Daemonettes

8 Horrors, 1w/ Bolt of Tzeentch

Daemon Prince w/ Iron Hide

496 points

You've got the Masque to disrupt the enemy and do some damage in combat (beware, T3 and only 2 wounds is easy to kill, so keep her safe), Daemonettes for numbers of attacks and speed, Horrors for dakka, and a cheapo DP for heavy lifting. Alternatively, you could replace the Slaaneshi things with Skulltaker and some Bloodletters (probably have to ditch Iron Hide and some Horrors to get enough) but you would miss out on some speed and numbers in favor of super MEQ killing (if you reach combat that is, Bloodletters are slow!). Or, if you want more Horrors or some extra oomph for your DP, replace the Masque with a cheap Herald of Tzeentch (50 points for an AP3 heavy bolter? Hellz yea!).

Fantastic Daemonette, I wish I could paint half that well or even have motivation to paint at all.

If you are playing combat patrol rules, then unfortunatly you can't have any special characters or models with more than 2 wounds (or 2+ Saves - which rules out Flesh Hounds)

My 500pts Daemons army is currently 24pts under, and is thus:

Herald Of Tzeentch

3x Blood Crushers

10x Bloodletters

8x Horrors, 1 Bolt

Might add We are Legion to the Herald to let him fire independently of the Horrors and Fury to the Crushers.

As you seem to be going the Khorne/Slannesh route (sound of fluff kitten dying) then Blood Letters and Fiends are a good route to perhaps take the army to about 1000pts, then start adding things like Greater Daemons and Flesh Hounds or maybe some Tzeentch for magical nastiness.

As for the Prince - If it's CC go Khorne, Wings, Fury, Might. About the same cost as a GD but really, really nasty. If it's ranged, go with Tzeentch, Gaze, Bolt, Master of Sorcery and We Are Legion - kills everything, and no slouch in CC either.

Ahhh hide - knew I'd forgotten something. And yes, they probably do suck - for that cost you can have a Thirster, and they're better by far. Still, I play Khorne/Tzeentch so they're the only two I would use and at the moment I'm erring towards the firebase Tzeentch prince.
Thing about Khorne is his basic troopers excel at killing MEQs, and that's also what princes excel at, so you're better off taking the fire support prince as you say. Other advantage to Tzeentch princes is they don't need hide or flight, making them really cheap.

No point having Master of Sorcery if you only have 2 shooting attacks as MCs can already fire 2 weapons.

Thanks for the replies and the positive comments (deamonette)!

„Unfortunately, I just did a quick calculation in my head (from memory, so I might be wrong, but I don't think I am), and that's over 500”
Jeah, I know that I bought too much, but I wanted to have some alternatives… And I am also willing to buy some more stuff if needed :)

“Does your gaming group plan to keep these armies going or just leave it at 500?”

First it will stay at 500 but maybe the new armies are such fun, that we go over to 750 / 1000

That sounds like a plan! I was thinking in the same direction… Maybe drop the mask for a slaneshi herald I can affiliate the deamonettes or a tzeentch herald to alffiliate the Horrors and give the DP more extra “oomph” :)

“As you seem to be going the Khorne/Slannesh route”

No, that’s not laid down…. I just likedthe skulltaker model so I bought it ;) I have no problem in leaving it at home.

“If it's ranged, go with Tzeentch, Gaze, Bolt, Master of Sorcery and We Are Legion - kills everything, and no slouch in CC either. “

I think that’s a nice combo!

“just noticed something else, a Tzeentch prince can't take we are legion, but it can take 3 shooty powers, making master of sorcery useful. Granted, the last shooty power is either a template weapon or has a range of 6", but still. “

Jep, I also noticed this… nice :D

So after your replies this could be my first list:

*************** 0,5 HQ ***************

Herald of Slaanesh

- Transfixing Gaze

- - - > 55 Punkte

*************** 2 Standard ***************

8 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch

- Bolt of Tzeentch

- The Changeling

- - - > 151 Punkte

8 Daemonettes of Slaanesh

- Transfixing Gaze

- Instrument of Chaos

- - - > 122 Punkte

*************** 1 Support ***************

Daemon Prince of Chaos

- Mark of Tzeentch

- Master of Sorcery

- Bolt of Tzeentch

- 1 x Daemonic Gaze

- - - > 170 Punkte

Insgesamte Punkte Chaos Daemons : 498

So, what do you think?

DP seems a tad expensive for such a small game. As said before, Master of Sorcery isn't needed unless you take 3 ranged weapons and since the 3rd would be Breath or Boon it's a waste. I would downgrade the DP to a simple Iron Hide+Daemonic Gaze so you can fit in more Daemonettes. People won't be fielding many heavy vehicles in 500 points (or at least I hope not), so between Bolt, D.Gaze, a MC, and rending you should be ok. 8 Daemonettes is too few, pick up as many as you can. Herald looks nice and cheap.

So, what do you think?

I just have a couple of tweaks to make it more effective you may want to take in to consideration.

1) In low points games, best prince is ==Me=='s suggestion, just replace hide with MoT, runs at 125 points and is plenty powerful enough.

2) instruments and transfixing gaze really aren't that useful.

That'll give you 60 more points to play with, best bet would be more 'nettes. ;)
