Can they....

Can daemons feel emotions other than the one they're created by? For example, can a bloodletter feel anything other that hate and rage? Just something I'm curious about really, I'd like to hear your theories, or if someone has an official reference proving it one way or the other that's even better.

Since Daemons are more or less mini-mes of the Chaos gods I'd expect them to feel the same range of emotion, or maybe a restricted range of emotions as dictated by their respective gods. For Khorne rage would be the main source of power, so lesser daemons fill up on that and don't get much of anything else. Greater Daemons embody all aspects of their god, so they might get nuances in emotion (martial pride, hope, innovation, etc) or if they are worshipped themselves they could exhibit totally different emotions.

I'd imagine that in their own forms, no, they'd have no ability to feel anything other than emotions and concepts related to their own god. I don't have any references, this is all speculation. At the very least, if they do have a range of emotions, it would be difficult for them to feel emotions antithetical to those of their god.

If they were to possess a being that had a fuller range of emotions, they might be able to, as Mal said, but I think they would have difficulty retaining the memory of what it was like later- it'd be like being high and trying to describe the impossible things you saw later when sober. The daemon would know that something weird had gone down, but probably wouldn't be able to put their claw on it, and would just go back to raging/sexing/plotting/emoting.

EDIT: Interesting topic, but your title is one of those that bugs me. 'Can they.... what?' I say to myself.

It depends. Some Daemons, such as Cherubael (Eisenhorn novels) are creatures of terrifying power, intellect and reason. He appears to feel a great number of emotions. He is definately higher up in the pecking order, though. Lesser Daemons are likely to be a single, driven emotion incapable of anything.

As they are formed from emotion, I'd say they do have "feelings." These are unlikely, however to be truely recognisable to human beings.

Got you to look though :tu: but ok, I'll change it.

You guys make some interesting points, the whole thing about needing to possess people to feel more emotions makes sense, and actually helps to explain why they want to do it so much.

Feel emotions? They are emotions, or rather scraps of emotion, thoughts, dreams, nightmares etc bound together and given form by the will of their patron deity. Can they feel anything outside of the emotions of which they are comprised? Depends on the circumstances. The Warp and Chaos by its very nature is raw potential, so practically anything is possible. I imagine entities such as Daemon Princes are quite complex in their emotions, as they retain much of the qualities they had when they were mortal, and the moods of The Lords of Change are notoriously mercurial. However, it seems that most daemons are derived from a core of particular emotions relevant to their particular patron, so it is unlikely that they would be able to experience anything outside of that remit. For example, I doubt very much that a Keeper of Secrets is capable of hating, fearing or feeling anger towards anything, as it revels in all experience and sensation, plus these emotions would fuel Chaos Powers other than its creator Slaanesh.
