Night Lords Defiler PiP

Recommended Posts

so ive never seen an night lord defiler so i figured i can make my own little scheme of it and I tried the lightning effects on the plated armor , now this is very WIP, the metals were drybruhed needing a bit of mith silver drybrush burnishing and black washes.

The lower body is being painted and the top i didnt even start. Tips and ideas welcome! oh and *sobs* Emperor protect my soul!

quick question, what would be a a night lordly gold ? the shining gold or the other bronzy gold?

The reason there aren't any is because it goes against fluff, Night Lords don't use Chaos I think, and Defilers are demonically possessed engines, but anyway, go back to what Docter Thunder said

"Never let fluff get in the way of a cool modelling project"

Anyway, looking good so far.

update i finished the lightning and added washes and blood i may replace the defiler's face mask... with the un-horned skull one

the torso is being painted so far the blue is based on and the face is replaced (but is interchangeable),also im wondering if i should even put the gold trim....

It depends on your taste, personally I prefer something in-between.

My gold is VGC Shining Gold (I forgot the name of the GW equivalent) mixed with Scorched Brown (70:30).

Followed by a highlight of thinned Shining Gold + a few Devlan Mud washes. Last is a highlight of slightly thinned Shining Gold + Chainmail (50:50).

It looks like: this

What's a Night Lord without his gold trim? ;)

Of course you should do it!

The only thing I'd change, based on the images above, is the blood effect. At the moment it looks too cartoon'y.

If you really want blood on there I suggest that you see this tutorial, by Lonewolf.

Otherwise I suggest that you drop the blood idea and leave it metallic, OR you could try and go the weathering route and simulate a mud/dirt effect on the claws.

Regardless,

Seeing your Night Lord defiler in the making is inspiring and so far he's coming along nicely, keep it up.

(this might even get me to pull myself together and paint mine)

Ah, Nightlords, my favourite Chaos force!

The Defiler is looking very good so far. I agree with the comments about the red looking a tad cartoony and agree that the claws would look nicer as weathered metal.

The lightning is looking good and all I would do is add a very fine white highlight in the centre of the lightning - otherwise it's spot on.

I always prefer the darker gold/burnished gold trim on Nightlords - I did mine using Ton Bitz, washed with Devlan Mud and then highlighted with a mix of Brazen Brass and Shining Gold.

Hope that helps?
