The Battle for the Border of Bellwether

The sun hung high in the midday sky causing the shadows to retreat to the deepest cracks and crevices of the earth. There was little wind and the air was stale and warm, a condition made worse by the exhaust pouring from the numerous tanks that lined the edge of the city of Bellwether. Standing amid the ruins along the edge of the city were the Black Templar Space Marines of the Dryfus Crusade. They had assembled at the border of the city to bolster the Imperial defenses in the area and ensure that a spearhead of Chaos Space Marines moving in from the West did not enter.

The Master of Sanctity, Jinook, walked patiently around the side of his Land Raider Crusader “The Fist of Deliverance” with his Terminator Command Squad just behind. He stared out over the forested land that stretched for miles from the cities edge and took in a deep breath. He could sense the foul presence of Chaos long before he heard the treads and tires of their vehicles digging at the dirt and moving quickly toward the city. He grabbed hold of the rungs of the Crusader’s hatch ladder and climbed up to the top. Standing proud atop the massive vehicle of war he shouted out to the small group of men assembled before him:

“Brave Brothers, not long must you wait! Do you hear the enemy approaching? They come with tainted weapons and cursed vehicles, hell-bent on crushing our bodies and our spirits. Their twisted minds and souls believe that the Dark Gods will carry them through this day. But you all know that the Will of the Emperor burns brightly in each one of you and that NONE can match the intensity of His Flame. Today Brothers, we will cleanse this field of battle of our Fallen Brethren and bring the light of his Divine Judgment to them all!”

Cheers erupted from the ranks of the men. On the horizon the faint image of rising dust signaled the arrival of the enemy. Striding forward through the ranks and joining Jinook atop the “Fist of Deliverance” was Brother Darien, the chosen Emperor’s Champion for the battle. Jinook nodded his head at Brother Darien and turned to the men. Calmly he spoke once more, saying, “Brothers, let us pray to the Emperor for His guidance.”

They all knelt and began to recite the chosen vow:

“O, Emperor, in wrath rejoicing

at bloody war; fierce and untamed.

Whose mighty power doth make the strongest

walls from their foundation shake.

All-conquering Master of Mankind,

Be pleased with this war’s tumultuous roar.

Delight in swords and fists red with…”

As they continued to pray, the Chaos Marines burst forth through the forested landscape before them. A massive Nurgle Daemon Prince dripping puss and blood stumbled forward slowly. He belched and smiled an evil smile full of malice and contempt. “Look at them praying to their False Emperor,” he murmured. Two Land Raiders rolled up on either side of him, the faint chant of “Blood for the Blood God! Blood for the Blood God!” emanating from their hatches and vents. He looked at each one as their engines revved eagerly and the generators for their lascannons fired up to full power. Just behind them a band of Nurgle Bikers rolled up and then took a 90-degree turn, moving off to get into a flanking position. Turning back to the Templar lines the Daemon Prince saw that the Templar had finished praying and were quickly and efficiently boarding their tanks. He caught a glimpse of Jinook standing inside his Land Raider Crusader as the front ramp began closing. Their eyes met for just a moment before the ramp slammed shut. The Daemon Prince laughed and shouted, “We shall show them the true power of Chaos!” With that, the battle at the border of Bellwether began…

hey i feel you got the right ethusiam and the story for your piece, i just feel that the story needs to have the thought of a space marine it sounds as if it came from a journalist, whos mind is human no offense, i would suggest reading the space marine books and if you have then you will notice the difference in their and our thoughts not jsut becase of mutations or the feeling of invincibility, i have one last comment try to use more complicated words or more advanced i felt that you used to many simple words if that made sense if you still don't understand what i am saying after you read it then just read a space marine book and advice from any author.

thanks
