Gresiloth
A little treat arrived in the post this morning, and he has become my first project of December............. ALVUS MERIHEM, Voice of Decay, Arch-Priest of Nurgulunth, Lord of the Grim Tithe, Wielder of the Great Flail, etc. etc. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_1916.jpg - I fell in love with the Forge World Nurgle sorcerer as soon as I saw it, so it was only a matter of time before I ordered it. Getting hold of the plastic flagellant kit fuelled my intentions even more, because I realised some sexy conversions that they would facilitate... - The glaive blade has been replaced by the Flagellants' large ball and chain flail (with extra green stuff anchoring) - The hourglass accessory fitted perfectly into his empty right hand. - This might seem a bit blasphemous, but I decided to remove the Nurgling on his shoulder - there was no real definition to its face, and I felt it detracted from the Sorcerer's own head (an important focal point). Replaced with slight green stuff texture. - He's standing on two layers of cork tile to bulk up his stature (it's not actually a very large model), with green stuff goo emanating from his feet! http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_1919.jpg - This is what is replacing his backpack! A pair of old metal Tyranid gargoyle wings, bent into a more folded position and green stuffed. They fit quite nicely onto the backpack area, but I will also green stuff all around the join to hold them in place. - I intend to paint these wings seperately, so I can access the model more easily when painting. And finally a bit of fluff which gives you a glimpse into Merihem's long and sickening career, and the origins of his Daemonic Flight: The Salvation of Eymerich The lights in the prison chamber flickered on as Lord Inquisitor Eymerich strode in, alone. At the centre of the metallic room a huge figure was slumped within a cell of reinforced glass, great shackles clamped around his power-armoured limbs. The prisoner had been detained following skirmishes in the ruined citadel of Dradil-6, and yet his capture had seemed all too easy - almost anticipated - which caused uneasiness to linger in the Inquisitor’s mind. “The Ordo Malleus is renowned for its patience, Alvus” said Eymerich smoothly as he descended the stairs leading to the central cell. “You may exhaust all the Interrogators aboard this vessel, and still we shall wait for answers”. The veteran Inquisitor held back all notes of anger from his well-honed voice, concealing his exasperation that the combined skills of his flagship’s torturers had coaxed not a word from their hideous captive. Sealed behind the thick containment glass, Alvus Merihem allowed a chuckle to escape from his grotesque mouth. The sorcerer read through his captor’s silken words with ease, recalling with amusement the Imperial thralls’ futile efforts to inflict pain upon one sworn many millennia ago to the service of Nurgle. Sensing the traitor-marine’s mockery, Eymerich tried a different tack. “The Book of All Flesh is a tome I have coveted for many years; pray tell me, what part had you in its authorship?” The Inquisitor’s shrewd attempt to tap into Merihem’s arrogance proved more fruitful. “The Book was penned by I alone - a peerless devotional work and the product of many years of solitary prayer and communion.” The proud words croaked slowly forth with a sickening rattle which turned the Inquisitor’s stomach. Choking back his revulsion, Eymerich continued. “I should dearly love to know the whereabouts of this accomplishment; to read for myself the words that have turned a whole Star System from the Emperor’s Light; to hold in my hands a crucible of lore so revered… so persuasive…” Eymerich knew his words trod unorthodox territory, but his righteous intent burned ever in his mind: the total destruction of the liturgical epidemic Alvus Merihem had set in motion across the Sector. World after world had fallen prey to the sorcerer’s vile preachings, and Eymerich’s lust to destroy The Book of All Flesh – seemingly Merihem’s central tool of conversion – burned stronger every day. Too strong. The Inquisitor had been foolish to enter the chamber alone, unaccompanied by his psy-servitors and equipped with minimal wargear. The prisoner within the cell stood listening to his foe’s every unguarded thought, a smile broadening on his leprous face. For the first time he looked upon Eymerich directly, his glazed, cataracted eyes staring pupil-less into the depths of the Inquisitor’s soul. “A cancer dwells within your Order, Lord Inquisitor.” His words were grim and dripped forth like a slow-acting venom. “It pumps through your veins more virulent than any contagion, enslaving you to its purpose; blinding you to its designs; castrating you of wisdom. Your very soul resonates with its signature - and I am come as your salvation!” Eymerich stood rigid, somehow unable to reach for his comm-set or to avert his gaze from those terrible milky eyes. At last he mustered a stammering response: “Of… what…do you… speak?” Alvus Merihem rose to his full height, his ancient armour creaking to life as he shrugged off the Imperial chains – long since corroded through contact with a vessel of such filth. He uttered a single word then, drawn out, almost whispered, which snaked its way from his throat and echoed around the room with a sound like the distant buzzing of flies. “Feeeeeeeeeear!” Instantly, the Inquisitor’s body was wracked with trembling, his vacant eyes fixed open. As Eymerich’s skin began to convulse from within, Merihem placed a bloated hand against the restraining glass. The smooth surface melted and fell away as though it was a thin membrane of mucous, and the pestilent sorcerer strode from his cell unhindered. He stooped to pick up what remained of Lord Inquisitor Eymerich, now quivering on the metal floor amidst a mass of writhing maggots. “Salvation is come” he muttered, and lurched out into the stark corridors of the Inquisitorial flagship. The great sorcerer soon arrived at the nearest docking port with his grisly prize, hindered little by the unsuspecting mortals he encountered on the way. All the while dark prayers had been on his lips, and as he launched himself into the airless void of space his fell petitions were answered; a pair of horrific leathery wings burst from his spine, and propelled his diseased bulk away into the blackness. Thus the carrion-thing of Nurgle flapped his way with unnatural speed (and without need of air, since the sorcerer was sustained more by his patron’s foul will than by any material necessity) across the galactic chasms that separated him from his awful lair – the mountain-fortress of Nurgulunth upon the blighted world of Threth. There on the ashen slopes of the Mountain he impaled the annihilated husk of Inquisitor Eymerich, and then withdrew to his rotten caverns to brood and give thanks to his eternal master: Nurgle the Plaguefather, Lord of Decay. Also want to mention that this fluff is also WIP, so any comments about it would help! Asmodeus' Swordhand
Very well converted, but I think that the be'lakor wings would suit better... As for the story I liked it a lot until the 'feeeeeeeear' part. That would have been better written 'fear' in my opinion. I would have ended the story right after the part where he left the prison room. After that things seemed to die pretty quickly. If you plan to continue the story however, here are some more suggestions. When he leaves the room there would most likely be guards outside the door. He is an Inquisitor, and important people are protected. After that, well preayers seem to be a pretty pathetic reason for nurgle to grant wings. I think he would drivel something more, like the sacrifice of the entire ship :) The last paragraph was sort of a tension breaker. And why did he bring the Inquisitors corpse the whole way there? My two cents, Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153898-forge-world-nurgle-sorcerer/#findComment-1794159 Share on other sites
Gresiloth
Great feedback, thanks! I admit I got totally carried away towards the end of the story - I was rushing to finish it so his journey from the prison chamber out of the ship was brushed over. Also I concede that the Inquisitor would not have been so easily defeated (or undefended), but I felt I'd just about get away with it because he is a bit of a maverick one and his preoccupation with the Book has clouded his judgement and made him impatient. I like the suggestion of ending it with him leaving the chamber, but that wouldn't explain the wings. He didn't get the wings because of the prayers by the way, but more as the culmination of his deeds (his prayers were just his natural pious habits which sparked the timing of the reward). He brought the corpse back for the obvious reason that it is a cool trophy! Regarding the conversion - I only gave him wings because I happened to have some old Tyranid ones, that's why I used these and not any alternatives. I think that their proportions actually fit the model quite nicely though, as it happens. Draakur
I love the base model too, very awesome, and everything you've done here suits him down to the ground. Gotta love flails  Does the hourglass actually fit well into his hand though? It kinda looks like it wouldn't fit that well, but it's hard to tell from this angle. Would really like some more shots if possible. I think the wings are a good choice, btw. Don't see the old gargoyle wings that often anymore, sweet. Gresiloth
Yes the hourglass does fit nicely, as it is suspended from a small chain which glued into his palm with hardly any holding at all. It is at a slight angle because I wanted it to be swinging as he is striding along, and also because I didn't want it obscuring his face any more than the right arm already does. Asmodeus' Swordhand
Cool. The be'lakor wings are the epitome of porportional though, just so you know :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153898-forge-world-nurgle-sorcerer/#findComment-1794749 Share on other sites
Gresiloth
Right, well the paint job is all done! It took me a long time but I'm quite satisfied, probably the best model I've painted so far. The face was really, really difficult to get looking good, and it's still not one of my favourite parts of the finished model (I wish there were some eyeballs sculpted in the sockets to pick out with paint!). Anyway I've done my best, and I'm looking forward to getting back to some plastic models next! ;) http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_1930.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_1932.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_1934.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i211/ashbeyj/All%20Shall%20Rot/100_1933.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/153898-forge-world-nurgle-sorcerer/#findComment-1797956 Share on other sites
