So is there an instance or possibility that the 13th or elements of can/would join with another Great Company during a battle/game? Side by side as allies or in support of one another (either way with the Great Company or the 13th as the majority of units and the other as support elements)?

No, not with the same FOC.

Not in one FOC rules wise. But fluff wise... heck ya!

Actually the latest Space Wolf book, Wolf's Honour includes the 13th Company, Ragnar, Torin, Haegr and a pack of Wulfen fight alongside the 13th Company against the Thousand Sons. Its an interresting read, perhaps not the best written fluff ever but... meh.

During the 13th Black Crusade the 13th Company came out of the Eye of Terror chasing after their quary and this was foretold by the Rune Priests of the Space Wolves, though Logan Grimnar seemed to neither worry nor was he overly surprised. He also didn't say anything when asked by other Imperial agencies about the 13th Company.

Thanks for the info. It's been a while and I am just getting back into things. I think I need an acronym guide. I can figure out some (and I'll probably kick myself) but what is FOC? It was a long midnight shift and I have to get some sleep soon. I just can't come up with anything right now. Thanx in advance.

FOC stands for the Force Organisation Chart, the standard block of allowed units in any single army. 1 HQ and 2 Troops are mandatory. In addition to that you have 4 more Troops, 1 additional HQ, 3 Elites, 3 Fast Attack and 3 Heavy Support.

The Space Wolves however have a slightly different organisation. You must take 1 HQ for every 750pts of your army, no more... no less. So Space Wolves do not have the standard HQ slots that other armies have. Additionally all Wolf Guard in your army take up just one Elites FOC slot no matter how many units those 20 Wolf Guard are split into.

The final funky thing the wolves can do is our Venerable Dreadnaughts can be either Elites or HQ. Which makes them perfect as stop gap units, if you need an additional HQ the Ven Dread can fulfill that requirement, if you don't it serves as an Elites. Quite usefull really.

Force Organisation Chart. It basically says in the 13th company rules that they can't be taken as allies or take allies themselves.

edit: Actually, it only says they are never joined by allies or units from other lists. Though, could they theoretically be taken as allies by another force?

Not in a single FOC. Of course 2 v 2 games, Apocalypse and so forth are another matter entirely. Most of the time you'd combine 13th Company with other armies its going to be games where more than one FOC is in use anyway so its not really that big a deal unless you want to take Wulfen in a normal Space Wolf army.
