Cypher?

What happened to Cypher?

It just occured to me that GW still has the mini in the main lineup (not "collector" or "archive") but the new Codex does not have rules for him. Did he move to teh DA codex or something?

He's hiding and biding his time obviously! Duhhhhh! ;) :(

I always thought that Cypher and the (what are the DA's renegades called ?? unforgiven ?? (Lawyers Ass. holiday party tonight, I've been drinking :) )) should be in the DA's dex. I mean they are not really chaos.

For all we know it might be the "will of the Imperior" that keeps saving Cyphers arse.

The Unforgiven are the DA and successors, the others are called the Fallen.

Cypher used to be in the chaos dex, but he is no longer supported by rules, much like asmodi, yet you can still buy that model too.

You can house rule him, or just use a lord profile for him.

I do agree that he could belong in the DA dex, but he could just as easily be chaos too... thats the whole point about cypher, only the emperor and chaos gods truely know what hes upto.

I think it was Jevis who stated that the Fallen where not Chaos by nature, some might be but most are not. I think Chaos played tricks on the legion turning good men against each other (it is an evil thing to put two goods in opposition to one another).

Chaos or not the outcasts really are "Fallen" as they have been forced to become priates, mercinaries etc and the Dark Angels mission to save their honour to my mind destroys it (how many times have they turned their back on their duty to pursue the Fallen? How many people, even brother marines (BT's) have they killed to save their honour? It seems the DA's are the most cursed of loyalist chapters....

  • 2 weeks later...

In the last Dark Angels Codex there were rules for Cypher.

There are also a number of sites on the net where you can find rules for him that have existed officially, but be careful with this because some people just post up their own house-rules so if you want the official ones, you have to make like a Dark Angel and Hunt the Fallen's rules.

Then again, it's always worth using Cypher as a Chaos Lord w/Mark of Tzeentch to represent his Invulnerability he seems to exude. Or... Use him as one of the existing Characters in the CSM/DA/SM Codex.

I managed to pick up the model a little while back, I just popped into my local game store (3rd party, not GW) and found they had brough some old models out from storage, they had a single Cypher blister left, and while I wasn;t planning on buying anything, I couldn;t pass that up.

I use him as both a DA company master and a Chaos Lord.

That's what I plan. I opened the door this morning to find Cypher. Not standing there, obviously that would be too weird, he's an enigma, but I don't see that happen Hehehehehehe. He was with the Postman.

So what would be the best ways to represent Cypher in the multitude of codex?

rules wise I would argue a Chaos Sorceror, that way doombolt (or any other shooting chaos power) could represent the awesomeness of his pistols and the huge sword on his back *which may or may not be the lion sword* is his force weapon

I prefer Chaos Lord with Mark of Tzeentch (to represent the Divine Protection) and Deathscreamer (to represent his Marksman/Duellist ability).

He never draws the sword on his back.

If you love the game fluff you should've seen the climax to the last Cardiff GW campaign.

There was around 5x approx.2000pts Dark Angels armies, and amongst the opposing forces 6 Fallen and a certain Mr.L.Cypher. Don't ask how, but they all managed to survive! The best thing was none of the army lists were really arranged, and fun was evidentially had by all...

I remember the guy controlling Cypher enjoys using him as a Chaos Lord of Tzeentch. So far this seems to be the popular choice.

I'd be all for a novel featuring Cypher written by the master himself Dan Abnett.

I think such a book would have some distinct parallels to the Dark Tower series... but that's just my crazy self. A quest to restore the balance to a distopian universe undertaken by a terrible, implacable being who is at once human and impossibly not so. And all that.

Be a fun ride, that's for sure. But it'd ruin the mystery. *wiggles fingers* Mystery!
