Firing Heavy Bolters

So... I know, there are a few topics similar to this already... but I was wondering, if two models can shoot from the firing point... does this include/exclude Heavy Bolters?

Like, if I had a Devastator Squad in a Rhino with Heavy Bolters could two of them fire from the firing hatch?

Thanks

agreed. example: for some inquisition armies the rhino can count as open-topped when using a fire point, so everyone can shoot (Sv 4+ or worse only).

the whole system has become a bit wonky with the generation gap from 'dexes in print to current rules. it would be easier if there were more consistant application of rules accross otherwise (nearly) identical models and armies.

I've seen it done, combat squad the unit and stick the 2 most valued weapons in a rhino, other 2 can be deployed elsewhere or use the rhino for cover. Those 35 points are more effective than the ablative wounds and it is pretty unlikely that even if the rhino is destroyed that you will loose the weapons.

Hey...

In Chaos space marine FAQ is rewritten the sentence and there is that 2 passangers can fire from rhino.

If vehicle is shaken or stunned they may not shoot in next shooting phase.

For shooting heavy weapons, vehicle needs to be stationary that turn.

My 3,14 gretchin bones

Alot of advantages born from this rule. This would be very useful VS tyranids and other horde armies. Even against other marines you can have the 2 plasma cannons firing. The only problem with this is the points cost.

5xDEV - 2xHB = 120 points

Rhino =35 points.

is 155 points for 2 heavy weapons who are safe from tyranids.

Alternativly:

5xDEV - 4xHB = 150 points

So it's a tough choice. But the point is good and taken.

Well, the tactic is sound no matter the opponent.

For 5 more points I am guaranteeing the squad is immune to everything except a heavy weapon - and that requires a dedicated shot to the Rhino (thus NOT something else). If ignored then the opponent has to look down the barrel of a gun (or two) next turn. Also, if the Rhino IS blown from under me then I have a few ablative wounds for the heavy weapons.

I wouldn't pull this trick every game so don't make an army list and keep using it all the time. Spice it up every game with different tactics - like this one.
