CrimsonMissed
Well, first day on here and I thought I better post something of what I have got. Unfortunately what I dont have is much talent, but there is more than enough enthusiasm. First Off, the HQ. The first game I played with Pedro Kantor he was unceremoniously chopped in half by one swipe of Ghazgul's power claw. Not having eternal warrior is an issue when the new rules state an independent character can always be picked out of a squad he has joined in close combat. As such it was time to look at getting an Honour Guard squad together. As standard the honour guards are expensive, but come with artificer armour, a bolter, bolt pistol and power weapon. Very handy when placed alongside Pedro. Unfortunately the only Honour Guard figures as yet released are the Ultramarines ones. Nice as those figures are they have so many pieces of U iconography that they would not do. I then considered the 'masters of the chapter' box I had not yet opened. With a small amount of conversion work, they would be ideal. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/3082337207_552258ccf1.jpg We now have A company champion with a thunder hammer and bolter (the head of Captain Lysander's Hammer has been grafted on as well as the bolter in his left hand, and a BT 'Knight' style helmet) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3032/3083176258_b5af6ef6c1.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3286/3083180084_638a6038a5.jpg Also 2 guys with Bolter and Relic Blade - the guy with the sword had a power fist and helmet in his left hand before the bolter, the guy with the axe had a storm shield in his right - and one with power sword and bolter who pretty much needed no conversion at all other than a Space wolf helmet. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3242/3082344559_7085e42d36.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3195/3083178264_eb40de7731.jpg As you can see, Pedro and 2 of his honour guard are still a 'Work in progress' as far as painting are concerned. CrimsonMissed
Then we have the facility to consider of the bold statement that any New Codex character can be used with a different name and paintjob in any codex chapter. Marvellous. Chief Librarian Tigurius looks favourite. I have an old mid 90's imperial fists librarian who fits the description perfectly. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3129/3083183808_5d096863b2.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/3082350233_95e733926b.jpg and he will soon be joined by an old Imperial Fists Chaplain who can get a combi-flamer and be a chaplain cassius if he needs to be. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3272/3082352183_6a1d7c866f.jpg Finally (for tonight) there is the model I built about a month before I found out that GW were doing a Pedro Kantor figure (he is now my first company Captain) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3195/3083242488_77029ba8fb.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3185/3082407315_cca8902491.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3179/3083245866_d4d9552be3.jpg Lysander's Body, the Terminator Captain's right arm and the earlier Box set Captains left arm. Terminatorinhell
the painting is VERY clean but I think the whites would benefit with a wash maybe devlan mud if you want a parchment like look and the face may need a flesh wash, other wise it looks great. How did you graft the hand? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1796589 Share on other sites
CrimsonMissed
Cheers dude, the cloaks have had a thinned badab black wash but the photo's overexposed a bit on the flash so lost a little of the subtlety. The faces were bronzed flesh worked back with blending then given a very thin chestnut ink wash. The hands were filed and shaped to fit the existing sockets then pinned in place. the champion's left hand was clutching his cloak in a very 'trigger finger' pose already, so i just drilled and pinned the bolter straight onto it. Probably going to buy one of the current emperor's champion figures and pin a bolter in his left hand too, so I have a third guy with a relic blade, making 5 Honour guard and the chapter master a 6 man complement to fill a razorback. Will probably get some forgeworld doors and do a personalised razorback for the chapter master. Starks333
i really suggest dropping the green bases/rims, they conflict with the colour scheme and detract from the minis themselves black rims, and probably some darker colour ground would work nicer i think as for the washes, try using the red one(baal?) on the green laurels, and the white cape, the blue too if you want Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1796625 Share on other sites
DextrousWombat
I like your captain more than what would have probably been done as Pedro Kantor, your captain reminds me of a guy who is like a legend in my Local Games store.......Captain Cortez 4th company captain of the Crimson Fists who is sadly missing and presumed dead by all but the Crimson Fists and Kantor. It would make a really cool force to be led by Cortez as he was nigh impossible to kill in his fluff, extra can be found on Lexicanum etc. The paint job is clean and looks good however i will have to agree with Terminatorinhell in that the white could use a bit more work and maybe a bit of dirt at the bottom if you think it will look good. Hope to see more -Petey Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1796641 Share on other sites
CrimsonMissed
Funnily enough, I have the captain Cortez figure undercoated and ready to start work on. Not sure what to do with him. he will probably be a veteran sergeant or part of my command squad. I have one of the old 'Imperial fist captain' figures from mid 90's too, who has had his powerfist drilled to accept a company standard. Here's another small conversion I did, following the renaming policy from the codex this is not Sergeant Torias Telion any more, His name is Sergeant Domingo Chavez. :P http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3021/3083456904_c91603eb15_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3157/3082621981_697ee4f898_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/3082623563_0b21dc1ea2_b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1796664 Share on other sites
CrimsonMissed
Finished the Librarian tonight, and got the first coat of Regal Blue on my Landraider crusader and Assault squad. Will get the assault squad finished tomorrow then try and get my Honour guard done. I want to have 1500 points painted and ready to go before the campaign I am playing in starts in January. As a matter of interest I gave the suggestion about my basing a try this evening on the librarian, and instead of railway flock on snot green with a snot green rim I tried a black rim and scorched brown with citadel flock and its much better. I may have to go back and rebase some of my earlier minis. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1798022 Share on other sites
Captain Mick
Very well painted models but indeed the white can use a wash of devlan mud. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1798364 Share on other sites
CrimsonMissed
Really not a fan of 'browning' white cloaks. I dont like the 'dirty' look it gives, as if the emperors finest dont have access to laundry facilities. Shading I am all for, but (unless I am specifically modelling a battlestained and weary case) dirty I dont like. I'll give a slightly deeper badab black wash to them but I want to avoid a 'sooty' look too. I dont think the shading came across in the photos of the white as the flash overexposed them badly. I'll try and get some better photos of the finished articles later tonight. Starks333
as mentioned you can use the red wash, or purple, or blue, or orange but its best to use some of the same colours throughout the model...so for ex. shading the red with blue, the blue with red, the cape with blue or red, the face can have some redish cheeks..the green and gold can get some redish, or purpleish tones without bringing in extra colours you can tie the scheme together and get more shading/highlighting :D glad the bases worked out for you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1798686 Share on other sites

CrimsonMissed
Time for an update. After getting the Assault Squad above finished I had a couple of weeks with a lot of work on so didnt get much done (also ended up playing a couple of games with my Eldar so wasnt focused on the marines anyway) However, after Knuckling down a bit I got the first one of my AoBR Tactical Squads done (normal marine ML guy and an old Vet Sergeant with Powerfist in there too) and last night I finished (ish) my Techmarine for my Thunderfire cannon. The Techmarine & Cannon http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3089/3128944342_28b5a0e79e.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3219/3128113517_1823122a5f.jpg Not 100% happy with the Techy, will do some more blue coloured panels on his Servo harness soon. The completed Squads so far..... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3219/3128118039_e6a71956c2.jpg And whats left to do..... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/3128120151_2f0eba3a3f.jpg (thats a 10 man Termie Squad, a 5 Man Assault Termie Squad, 11 Sternguard (2 sergeants so I can double up on elite choices) a command squad, another 10 man AoBR tac squad, a handful of vanguard and 3 Chaplains (1 termie, 1 Cassius clone and one powerfist) as well as a LRC and a razorback. I best get back to the table. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1816981 Share on other sites

CrimsonMissed
The 1st Captain of the Imperial Fists is the Chapter Master, so Kantor is the 1st Captain. First company captain. Like Agemman of the Ultramarines. This guy is called Velasquez. Should be trying him out soon, but may wait until the command squad is done first. Brother SRM
Your work is rather good - from what I could see the Thunderfire and Techmarine looked especially good. However, you're the first person I've ever heard say the Captain Cortez model was "good" :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1817564 Share on other sites
CrimsonMissed
However, you're the first person I've ever heard say the Captain Cortez model was "good" B) I have been known to have somewhat questionable taste.... After all, I drive a 72' Lotus - from the days when it really did mean 'Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious'. :P Thanks for your comments guys. Working on 3 terminators at the moment (sergeant and Assault Cannon already done a while back) to at least make a usable painted squad. May finish off my Cyclone guy as well so I can pick which Heavy weapon to send out with them. Photos to follow after the runaround of family duties over the 'festive' period. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154086-crimson-fists/#findComment-1817870 Share on other sites

CrimsonMissed
I like the blue alot, how did you do it? Nice name for "Telion" too ;) Cheers, the character in the book is quite cool, and fits the idea too. The blue was acheived by maintaining a stable colour balance to the blue. I tend to avoid highlighting with contrasting colours or diffferent shades of the same colour as I like to keep a stable pigment. I have tried shading up from Regal blue with enchanted and electric blue but couldnt get a consistent transition. As such I gradually work with ascending ratios of skull white (drybrushing basic troops and blending characters). For the blue its a regal blue base colour, with heavy drybrush/blend 80:20 regal blue:skull white. Then I repeat with gentler drybrush/blend steadily through 60:40, 40:60 and a final edging of 20:80 - then an asurmen blue wash to smooth the transitions of the shading. Doing large squads of basic troops I will sometimes cut out the 60:40 and 40:60 and just do one 50:50. Time consuming, but I find that (for me) its the only way I can get a smooth transition on the shade. My earlier figures (the terminator captains) were done with the old Ink Washes, which arent a patch on the new citadel washes I use now.
