insomniacpyro
Reborn What used to be the Omega Saints has now been changed to the Sons of Osiris! With this new moniker I will finally be able to iron out many of the details I wasn't able to with the old name. Please refer to the blog to read up on them. A quick backstory +++ ATTENTION: All data below this line is considered ARCHIVAL by the Inquisition! +++ So, here's my first primed/painted brother of the Omega Saints. Note: this isn't final quality- there's still some touch-ups to do. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0636-1.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0638-1.jpg Here's another guy- his base will have his bolter on it. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0640-1.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0641-1.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0642-1.jpg That's all for now- more once I get the other boys primed up. ShinyRhino
No too shabby, thus far. What's that stuff you have on the bases? Kinda looks like clay or Play-Doh. insomniacpyro
Just some sticky-tac. Works great to keep them in place while I paint, and doesn't leave a residue. Normally I sticky-tack the base and model to a paint pot as well. ShinyRhino
Ahh, ok. I use the same stuff to affix finished models to a bottle cap for sealing, or to assemble models for gameplay before I've painted them. The Nephilim
Please put the grenade arm in a more dynamic pose. As is, he looks like Brick Tamlin with a hand grenade. http://content.ytmnd.com/content/a/d/6/ad6e0340ed9247c9a8ab7f507ce87cd0.gif Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1801686 Share on other sites
son of nocturne
Hehehe! Ooh Rick... 'where did you get that hand grenade from Rick?' 'I dont know...' Yes agreed with Nephilim! paint looks good so far though keep it up bud! S.O.N. insomniacpyro
Hmm yes I suppose it's hard for it to come across other than "Hey, you know what this thing does?" http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/acetone.jpg Also, don't use nail polish remover that your wife swears doesn't ruin her temp. nails. Oven cleaner works fine though. If you can't see the pic clearly, he's mostly a lost cause, his lower body is ruined. shadowfire
Also, don't use nail polish remover that your wife swears doesn't ruin her temp. nails. Oven cleaner works fine though. If you can't see the pic clearly, he's mostly a lost cause, his lower body is ruined. Greenstuff! Seriously, it doesn't look like that much of a waste, it's still there! This'd be a nice opportunity to personalize the model with some greenstuff or other conversion work. Sculpting and basing will work wonders to hide the slightly melted details. insomniacpyro
His bolter is gone, though, the whole thing has zero detail on it  I might keep him around, I do have some different green stuff that I have yet to experiment with. shadowfire
It's not like you don't have extra bolters right? He's not a snap-fit marine, is he? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1803718 Share on other sites
insomniacpyro
I don't have any extra bolters at the moment. And no, he's not a snap-fit. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1804918 Share on other sites
insomniacpyro
So I forgot to mention that at least one of my tactical squads will be a part of first company, i.e veterans, and have a slightly different paint scheme. The silver on the shoulder pads is pretty much their only marking outside of any marks of honor. The silver itself isn't finished, which is obvious. I just don't have any more dexterity tonight to keep painting, so maybe tomorrow will yield some more results. First up is the guy you saw earlier that was most completed. Until I can get some better lights these will have to do. I do have more lamps but it's just finding them. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0651.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0644.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0652.jpg Next up is Mr. Grenade. I had a change of heart and it's kinda finny how he's holding it. Personally I envisioned it as a stand-off pose, like he's either going to cut you up or blow you to pieces. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0650.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0645.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0649.jpg This next one is another vet. He came from the 10 man tactical squad that I had to strip and repaint- he came out pretty good. I made a big boo-boo when doing some repainting on a few of the rest and dropped them on the floor- dust/etc was everywhere from drywalling, but it seems like they are okay. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0647.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0646.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0648.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1807305 Share on other sites
insomniacpyro
Just a quick update for everyone- I've started on a few of the bases whilst my paint removal continues for my pre-painted ebay soldiers. I'll have pics up tonight (technically) sometime after I get done with work. Right now I'm using some super-fine sand and aquarium rock, and it's looking pretty good. I'm going to drybrush with some dark grey to give it a dirty, almost ashen tone to the ground. So yeah, don't lose hope, I'm still here! ShinyRhino
Good to see you're making progress. The nail polish remover victim is still salvageable. Stuck him in your bitz box until you've got some experience under your belt, and you'll be able to do something with him someday. Or, just slap some greenstuff on him and Nurgle-ize him! insomniacpyro
Okay, posting up some photos since I'm done with the bases. I had to move my light but not my desk, so I figured I'd give the ol' white cardboard/paper trick a try. I sooooo need another lamp but I can't get at it right now. Let me know which ones are better- flash or no flash. All of these are edited as much as I could get without ruining the pic. Mr. Standard: Simple pose. He was pretty easy, and still is, to paint. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0658.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0654.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0659.jpg Let's do this: Hmm, there's something about him that I like. Dunno what though. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0655.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0661.jpg I'm reloading, by the Emperor! hold on! This guy came out of some improvising after being interrupted gluing- misplaced arms = chop the clip off. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0656.jpghttp://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0664.jpg Captain Gonna-have-a-ball-n-chain-soon: Yes. He's gonna have one once I can get a hold of a spiked ball small enough. His no-flash pic didn't come out at all. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0663.jpg Since these pics are crappy and I need to fix them later (i.e steal a camera from best buy or something), I'll give you the rundown: After the marines were painted, I started getting the bases glued and ready. I did just one coat of Testor's black on them, then drybrushed with grey. 98% of each one came out looking spectacular. I might try doing the opposite drybrush- one coat of grey, drybrush black just to see what happens. Otherwise, I'm out for now. I might try some more tonight (christmas night) but it depends when I get asleep today. Again I must remind everyone that these guys are no where near the quality I want them to be- touch-ups are just hard for a newbie painter like me right now. Worry not- practice makes perfect! I'm not very easily let down by how they look right now. insomniacpyro
Well, I got some new stuff for '09... Sort of. The 10-man tactical squad isn't done yet, and neither is my nice new AoBR dreadnought I got. Why? Primer. I need more primer, and hopefully next week some time I'll be grabbing some. Despite that I've started doing some scenery. None of it is done yet, but you can kind of see where I'm going with it. Busted corner #1: Made kind of the old fashioned(?) way with cardboard, wood glue, and sand. Turned out pretty nice, the texture is great. The base will be done with glue and sand to give it a nice rocky feel. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0672.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0668.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0667.jpg And here's Bunker #1 The wall in front of the small bunker itself was made out of sprue, then layered with cardboard to make it really thick. It's not done drying yet. Base will be done the same as the other. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0671.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0670.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0669.jpg Ancient Drelnor: Ancient Drelnor is one of the most respected ancients of the Omega Saints. Few are older than him- in fact, even the Chapter Master has only known him in his metal form. More fluff on him later... This is what happens with you don't have enough primer in the spray can. Note: Not glued to the base for obvious reasons. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0665.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0666.jpg Again, Comments and questions are always welcome! Oh yeah, before I forget: My Assault on Black Reach will be coming before the end of next week, and after that I have arranged a trade with a friend so that I'll get his marines out of his AoBR for my orks! W00t, termies and 3 dreads all together! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1837522 Share on other sites
insomniacpyro
Here's a mockup for the 2nd Company: I've also done a change for the 1st Company vets, which I'll get pics of tonight. Basically, I've changed the weapon color to black and painted the shoulder pads, any skulls, aquillas, etc. silver. The captains helmet is completely silver as well. I'm sorta iffy on the quality of the paint itself, though. It's all a little thick and I think a strip/repaint could do them good. Due to unforseen problems I still don't have any primer, but hopefully that will come this week on payday. I'm also buying some flesh color for the faces I have since I got AoBR, and some red and white for the purity seals. So I have a lot of work for right now. I have also traded with my friend for his AoBR marines. Here's a rundown of all of my forces for far: 2 Captains 2 AoBR tac squads (i.e two flamers and missile launchers) (10 Each) 1 Tac squad with one flamer (no missile launcher) (10 Total) 1 5-man squad (5) 3 AoBR Dreadnoughts (3) 2 AoBR Terminator Squads (5 each) Total: 47 Troops, 3 Armor Not too bad! My first AoBR marine set is completely done and ready to prime. The 3 Dreads are ready too, but the troops from the other AoBR set needs to get done, which I'll probably work on tonight. Fausto2071
i like the ruins you made~they seem kinda shiny though~i tried making ruins from old sprues but that was tedious as all hell, think i'll use cardboard and sand as well now Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1944316 Share on other sites
insomniacpyro
So, after FAR too long, I finally dug the camera out to take some better pictures, and some updates on everything. I had to delete a bunch because the focus was crap, so this is all I have for now. First, Ancient Drelnor and his dread body. It's by far not finished, but you can see where I'm going... http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0712.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0716.jpg The rest is from my AOBR tac squad, except for the shiny silver guy. I have 5 of them, but they are going to get repainted eventually. ((Not my Call of the Imperium squad either. These have been painted for a while.)) http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0703.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0704.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0701.jpg And my Terminators. I have 5 of them done, all in this style. The other 5 are horrible and need stripping. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0717.jpg Again, comments/etc are welcome! I have a battleforce coming, along with a drill and some greenstuff, so I hope to start having some conversion fun with these boys :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-1958872 Share on other sites
insomniacpyro
After a horribly long sabbatical I'm back! I've been doing a lot of work lately on these guys. While I only have another tac. squad done, I'm really impressed with how well it went painting them. There is only 9 in this squad at the moment because uhm... One was lost in the warp? http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0881.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0882.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0883.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0885.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0886.jpg This is the newer squad that was supposed to be for CoTI, but numerous things stopped me from finishing all of it in time ;) http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0887.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0888.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0889.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0890.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0891.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0892.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0893.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c204/insomniac_vivi/Space%20Marines/PICT0894.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154264-wip-sons-of-osiris/#findComment-2088488 Share on other sites

ThirtySixNights
Several phrases composed of many words: your painting is lacking alot of style and character, try and make more extensive use of techniques such as highlighting and washing. Brother Trajan
I would say go through and drill the holes in your weapons, take care of the flash, try drybrushing and painting separate colors on top of the basic drybrushing so as to add depth. Little things go a long way in making your models look amazing. insomniacpyro
Yes I should have put something in that other post- these are really old pics. However for the moment I also use Enamel paints, which does allow for dry/overbrushing but not washes.
