Undermind
The battle-slogan of the Land Raider, Nemo Mea Poena Effugit, was encrusted with soot, blood and grime. The plastisteel plaque stood out like a beacon against the onslaught of the Tyranids. No matter how much corrosive blood sprayed across it, it maintained its luster. Its brilliance. Nemo Mea Poena Effugit, None shall escape our vengeance, indeed, though Commander Felix, lead officer of the Land Raider. He was a daunting man, augmented by his bulky power armor. The beginnings of facial hair were starting to infest his normally clean-shaven face. There had been simply no time to shave. No time for sleep. No time for anything. But still he remained vigilant, shouting orders to his crew. “30 degrees, starboard, engage target 125.8 with starboard lascannon. His gunnery crew received target lock on the subject, in this case a Carnifex, and unleashed a glimmering beam of semi-translucent light towards the damnable creature. No time to gloat he told himself as the thing screamed as the beams scythed through it’s torso. Felix allowed his mind to slip for a second, and was immediately slammed against the starboard wall, the adamantium as forgiving as concrete. His armor saved him the brunt of the hit but he was still shaken. “Calculate target angle and location. Return fire!” The source of the frightening blast was a thing of the warp, a Zoarthrope. Its head glowed with psychic frost, the after burn of the formidable blast. It was an easy target and a moment later it was hacked apart unmercifully. Another kill for Felix and his Land Raider. But targets were rife and his crew was equipped for the threat. For the alien, nothing, Felix thought before scanning the area for new targets. This project will be the first tank of my Salamander's list. I am unsure of which army (DKoK or this one) that I will be playing but hopefully the answer will become apparent to me soon. This Land Raider will be the vanguard of my Salamanders army if I choose to play Space Marines instead of DKoK, transporting deadly Terminators into the mist of enemies. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1081.jpg Just a basic picture of the right skirt. In this picture there is 3 of the total 4 layers that will be used. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1082.jpg This is the aforementioned fourth layer, which sports the side hatch and the lascannon battery. This is also were most of the detail work will go, including the large salamander head icon. Purity seals and most likely some scrolls will be crafted on to it. Also most probably a flame detail. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1085.jpg All layers pictured here, along with hatch. I want input and suggestions for everything from iconography to design here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154285-land-raider/ Share on other sites
The_Chaplain
it depends really if you want to play up the salamander itself, or the fire-based promethean cult motifs. If the former, go for lizard scales, if the latter, fire is the way to go. Undermind
Felix stood watching as his Land Raider received treatment and reconstruction from the battle with the beastly Tyranids. He had striped off his armor and had left it for the armorers to take care of and repair, and then had ventured down to the vehicle pool in a simple cassock. The Land Raider had taking a beating in the skirmish with the bugs and was in major need of repair and restock. The repair was overseen by a Techpirest, who's orders were carried out by the lowly servitors and laborers, who constantly scrubbed the Land Raider down and filled it's acid burns with a filler solution. It would be ready for the next call to battle. All of a sudden, the war-klaxons sounded Mail Call! The sponson is completed on one side, along with details. The rune that is on the gun-guard is that of Sowilo, the rune of victory. Now why a rune you must be asking. Well, I decided to go with DKoK as my primary army so my hopes of doing a Salamander's army are gone- for now. This tank will now be made for a friend who plays Space Wolves, so it will now be covered in runes, pelts, and other Space Wolves symbols. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1090.jpg Sponson, complete with rivets and Sowilo. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1091.jpg Birds eye view of the sponson. As you can see, the Lascannon is not twin linked. Real world problem: I could only find two Lascannons in my bitz box. 40k Problem: Resources are is short supply. Land Raiders are striped of their second Twin Linked Lascannon apparatus, to make AA defense turrets for the compound, and equipped instead with a single, experimental Lascannon with double the rate of fire and ammunition. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1092.jpg Sponson in place with the rest of the tank. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/Eman_E/IMG_1093.jpg Size picture with a rhino side skirt. Shortsonfire79
Great fluff. I love fluff. FYI, its a ZoaNthrope. not Zoarthrope. I'm glad you put the fluff in there for the lascannon too. I was going to say something =-D But..if it were expanded rate of fire, wouldn't it be bigger in a sort of way? Just curious. Good stuff for a scratch build (Better than any sort of plasticard stuff I've attempted) but some of the lines aren't straight, like the indents where you'll be able to see the tracks... FuriousFerret
This is very interesting, a scratch-built land raider. I will follow this thread with interest. But how come you're doing it yourself? Is this true-scale, ie. vastly bigger than a regular land raider? Or do you not have the money for a GW LR kit, or is it just for the hell of it?
