Any ideas for converting Chaos Icons and Instruments?

I've managed to amass 30+ Plaguebearer models, unfortunately none of them have either an instument or icon. I'm sure there are others amongst you that are in the same situation as me if only those that play mono-Tzeentch and numerous units of horrors.

So what are your ideas? Bitz parts and or photos to illustrate would be good.

Anything can be used so long as it sticks out. A particularly nasty mutation (giant horn, huge robot arm, different coloration, etc) or piece of kit (marine back banner, CSM icon, etc) can be used to make instruments and icons stick out.

See if there are any Fantasy players in your area willing to part with some bits.

Plaguebearers have command sets available. Just get those for ease.

As far as tzeentch goes, they don't necessarily have to be horns or banners, being the god of change and all. Old school horrors had drums for heads as musicians, as an example. Maybe model one with a really big mouth for "singing?" Maybe a big tentacle or other strange thing as a banner.

You can look up references of the Chaos Icons themselves; the Codex has them.

Reference p.72. Bottom picture, the guy to the left of the nurgle Daemon Prince is holding one aloft.

In general, Nurgle's got a thing for three skulls/circles in a trinagle pattern. You can mix 'n' match that with an 8-pointed star.

Reference p.85 as well.

The triangle is Nurgle, and the other crescent-type one is Tzeentch, I believe.

p.74: the crescent-like picture on the bottom of the second column is also Tzeentch.

For the Horrors...You could get away with about anything, like a Teleporter Beacon, even.

Thnaks for the replies and suggestions.

For now I'd like to try and maintain the traditional use of banners & horns etc.

@ ==Me== Which Fantasy kits (I'm not familiar with the fantasy range) would be a good source of the various Chaos god icons (banners) and instruments, chaos warriors, chaos knights and or something else? Does anyone have a close up shot of the various sprue components (specifically banners and instruments) - I've done a quick search but was unsuccessful

@ Seahawk - I'm well aware of the plaguebearer command set - didn't really make it clear in my opening post but having 30+ plaguebearer models already I don't really feel like purchasing additonal plaguebearers sets purely for the 'full commands' when I'm hoping to run 3 to 4 seperate units. Old school horros I'm aware of though I don't own any of them, I had the current range of horrors in mind.

@Raptor - thanks for all the page references, i'll recheck the codex out later when I'm not working - though I'd still like to see what other players have used themselves to represent and or convert icons / instruments as additonal inspiration.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

I was actually thinking of Skaven boxes as they come with 3 different kinds of banners and instruments, all pretty generic. The tattered banner woven out of skin(?) with skulls and body parts hanging off would work well, as would a simple bell.

I know the Bloodletter and Daemonette boxes have spare banners, but only 1 musician in each.

I'm primarily a Skaven player so I just had to chime in ;)

The Horned Rat embodies Skavendom in the form of the cowardly schemer, psychotic innovater, ninja rat, and harbinger of disease. It's less about accepting setbacks and becoming stronger for it (Nurgle) and more about bringing an end to all surface dwellers :D

Go on the Games Workshop website and search for Plaguebearers Command. They come 5 per box and contain a 2 normal Plaguebearers, a Chaos Icon Bearer, an Instrument of Chaos musician and a Champion (which can be used to represent either a Plaguebearer gifted with Noxious Touch or an Herald of Nurgle on foot).

Also, if you visit your FLGS, you may even find a Plaguebearer Command blister (in the Warhammer Fantasy section of the shop, most likely.)
