Using specific chapter codexes...

I want to make up my own chapter. Plain and simple. I don't want to use blood angels or ultramarines or any other chapter. I want to paint my units in the scheme I've devised, and I want to make them look cool by upgrading them with bits from various chapter upgrade bits. That's how that is, and that's what I want to stick to.

But here's my dilemma. I really like the codex for blood angels over that of the standard space marine codex. Can I apply the blood angel codex to my homebrew chapter, so long as I strictly adhere to the equipment options and stats, or will I get called out for my army not having the proper paint schemes, insignia, etc...

I really want to get a box of normal assault marines, upgrade them with the cool looking cloaks and hoods from DA, and then run them as a Death Company. I know my friends would be fine with this, so long as all of my units deploy as units from the single Blood Marine codex, but I dream of bringing my army to a Games Day event someday, and it would suck to get there and have people tell me I can't do what I'm doing.

Sure you can.

I use my own chapter, but use various Dark Angel and Black Templar bits.

I can use any codex I like (one at a time naturally).

Some times my marines with Bolt Pistol/Chainsword are Crusader Squads (Black Templar). Next battle they might be Blood Claws (Space Wolves).

If you like the Blood Angels Codex, just use that with whatver models you have. Just be consistent. If you choose to represent Death Company with hooded and cloaked marine, there shouldn't be any non-Death Company marines running around in hoods and cloaks.

As long as you are consistent, you will not run into any problems.

I hear your pain!

No seriously, I run a vanilla chapter called the Phoenix Knights Templar, but they use the Blood Angel shoulder pads, and other various BA insignia. I also use them as BAs as that is my favourite army. No one has yet bothered me one way or the other about it. I gave them a similar colour scheme to the BAs but with my own personal twist. This way I have two armies. So don't let anyone give you any guff.
