arctica
Well a while ago i decided to repaint my nightlords chaos army and split it into two separate armies, Thousand sons and World Eaters. This wip will show my initial progress with both these armies and any other marines i might paint. Anyway enough of that on with the show, Im a really slow painter, but i have at the moment 4 rubric marines painted and i've spent about 4 days now putting together another 12 rubrics, 2 sorcerers, 5 terminators, 1 terminator lord/sorcerer and i still haven't finished green stuffing the terminators and adding a little extra detail to the rubrics. I also still have 6 obliterators lined up to go and thats only my tsons army. http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4577/pict0595dl4.jpg For the World Eaters, i have put together 8 beskers but i still have another 16 to go, a dreadnought, defiler and i want some terminators with lightning claws but it looks like im going to have to fork out for forge world conversion bits and a space marine close combat termies for what i want. Plus the latest release of lord zhufor has made me drool over the model so thats another one for my xmas wishlist lol. Here are two test minis for my beserkers. http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3525/pict0493lz4.jpg http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/6250/pict0523ui6.jpg Anyway, I am still pondering whether to give anything without a mark the army paint scheme or an unaligned paint scheme, like black and gold. Comments and criticism are always welcome and apologies for my poor photography skills. Durus
Great painting! I really like those thousand sons. For the World Eaters i like the second scheme better. It could be the flash on the photo but the colours on the first one look a bit to neon for my taste. If you are doing themed armies each single unit should show their affiliation for their respective deities. They might not have recieved the blessing of the mark yet, but they are surely worshipping them, right? :) Good luck with your armies. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this (even in spite of your poor photography skills :) ). Pulse
I have to agree, those Thousand Sons are fantastic, really well painted!! 2nd scheme i think for the World Eaters! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1802838 Share on other sites
arctica
Well as a quick update, i've now put together 12 more rubric marine and 5 tzeentch terminators with lord. But i also managed to finish painting a sorcerer for my first squad in about 10 hours, i think its not bad work for tabletop quality. The freehand was fun especially on the shoulder pad and parchment, Im pretty happy with this guy. Anyway your thoughts and criticisms are welcome as always. http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/710/pict0596ro9.jpg http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/9306/pict0597ad6.jpg http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/2263/pict0598te6.jpg http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/4963/pict0599mq1.jpg @Durus, i think you're right about the colour scheme, making them all a coherent army in that respects will look better than what i had been thinking. Also it was the flash on the photo. The reds were done in identical ways on both minis, been trying to practice Lunchbox's technique of red glazing actually but my reds seemed to lack much contrast on the photos. arctica
Well after about 4 days of painting (after work of course ;)) i managed to finish painting this terminator as a test model. Im happy with the results but i still think the metal models are really static and im not keen on painting metal models. But anyway the blending of it all is nice and i was trying some different techniques too. I generally work from dark to light when painting but this time on the blue and greys i worked from medium colour and shaded and highlighted. It was quite fun and i think the effects are really good. I took Demi's advice to try and get more contrast in my NMM but i still need to work on it more. Still practicing with glazing and making my blends as smooth as i can. Anyway i'll let you make that judgement, comments and criticisms are welcome. http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4943/pict0604sw1.jpg http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4606/pict0602ml3.jpg http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/2118/pict0603cd6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1814766 Share on other sites

arctica
Well time for another update, after the Xmas break i managed to finish my squad of thousand sons marines and im pretty happy with them. But i noticed when i was painting them because i had been doing the same thing over and over i was trying to rush through them. Army building requires so much concentration and determination its hard to keep focused. Anyway here are the pics of the unit. http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3761/pict0605pf4.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/3654/pict0606su7.jpg So following this i wanted to break up my painting and do something which would help me refocus when i needed it so i started work on a skull champion for a squad of beserkers i have. This little fella took me 3 days but im happy with the results, and it still gives me the chance to practice my NMM. http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1599/pict0614nx2.jpg http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4358/pict0615yz0.jpg http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4007/pict0616ti1.jpg http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4567/pict0617xy4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1830195 Share on other sites
Wink
Looking great, I love that lord, the only thing wrong with it is that the head looks slightly awkward. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1830481 Share on other sites
Wolf89
Awesome stuff there! The rubric marines are by far my favorite, and the purple glows you have going on... just so cool. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1830501 Share on other sites
The Nephilim
Nicely done. I'm gonna have to agree with Wink. The Slaaneshi Lord head always looks funny on Marines. The scale is off. It's a common conversion on the EC boards that gets a lot of flak. arctica
I have currently finished 3 more tsons marines from my 2nd squad but i have also just done the leader of the squad too. I wanted something different for this squad so it wasn't identical to the other one, i darkened the armour colour of the blue and i used a different sorcerer model. The marines i used were my old recycled nightlords with the proper heads. Im really happy with this new sorcerer but comments and criticisms are very welcome. http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/3966/pict0620ah7.jpg http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7995/pict0621if9.jpg http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6191/pict0623rw7.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1851357 Share on other sites

Sons of Horus
i can't believe i've never seen this before :) those 1k sons are AMAZING!! AWESOME!!! some of the best 1k sons i have seen in a long time. keep 'em coming, i must see more of your astounding 1k sons. the painting on them is great too. very clean and smooth. perfectly done. the Khorne lord looks cool. nice choice for a helmet :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1851955 Share on other sites
arctica
Heres a fairly big update from me, i have been working on my 2nd squad of thousand sons marines. In general i am happy with them, they are painted to a table top quality, but i did find myself losing focus after a while. I think for two reasons, first was that i have been working on tsons marines for the last two months now and the quality of the models were not as good as the first squad since they were a recycled chaos marine unit from my old original army. Anyway enough of my rambling here is the unit. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/6400/pict0663fp3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1870290 Share on other sites
arctica
Well as another update i've finished my terminators after being stricken by the flu, trying to find concentration and strength again is difficult. Overall im very happy with the whole squad and individually they are all of a fair tabletop standard. The blue's are all glazed and im happy with it all. Anyway comments and criticisms are welcome: http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2751/pict0673kh8.jpg http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3782/pict0671vw2.jpg http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/163/pict0670ki7.jpg http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/236/pict0667ho0.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1887220 Share on other sites

arctica
Here is another update, i decided rather then working on some obliterators i wanted to paint my chaos lord instead. Im happy with how he turned out and it gave me a chance to improve my grey nmm and my freehand work. Anyway here it is, comments and criticisms are very welcome. http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/2210/chaoslord02.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/154555-arcticas-wip/#findComment-1902771 Share on other sites
Brother Corvus
That NMM is fantastic! ^_^ The freehand on the cape looks excellent as well. It may just be me, but the purple/pink on the base doesnt detracts form the model a bit, but that may just be me!
