sergeant Mayuri

Brother Praaxius was slain in combat durin the beginning of AOD and now the new marine, Mayuri has taken his armor , in order to honor his spirit he has painted a blood tear drop on his helmet and a red knuckle on his powerfist. Mayuri is the sergeant of the Research squad and he modifies his body with augmentics almost after every battle, there fore no one ever sees his face. (mayuri from bleach, my favorite character ;)) NOTE: his arms are magnetized and his armor is supposed to look extra matte. The research squad themselves are testing new types of weapons (like the Mentor Legion) and they are potent in battle.

take...more....time....

unless you are really young(which then i understand) the models look like you spent all of 25 seconds on them, the mould lines arent clean, the paint is very sloppy

these are the basics....until theres time and care spent on the basics, theres nothing to really comment on

QFT. Some good ideas conversionwise so far, but the paintjob isn't even close to clean and decent, sorry

this was a bit of a concept to see what the scheme would look like, but I might strip the paint again. Also, what if you have a cracked spraypaint finish on say a cape and simple green doesnt get rid of it what do you do?

if its a larger smoother surface, you can use 400 grit sand paper to sand it off and then 600 grit to smoothen out any scratches

then if there are still some scratches, take a small ball of milliput, poke an indent in the centre, add a bit of water and with a spare brush, apply diluted milliput over the cape....once it dries(several hours) sand it with fine grit sandpaper and the scratches from heavier sanding will be filled...this may take a couple doses if its really scratchy

this is the method used for metal figs with rough surfaces

if its a small surface use the edge of a knife to scrape away as best as you can, and a bit of sanding if you can fit it in

otherwise, test the primer before priming to ensure it isnt going to go on poorly

Youre just not listening. Each time you post a model, it's the same story, they're (very) nice conversion-wise yet the paint is terrible. Every time people give you advice on how to improve and you simply don't. Dude, take a simple painting lesson at your GW and listen to the advice on these boards. We're all here to help you, but you simply refuse to listen.
k, ill see if they are offering one next Saturday, and as for the cape i am talking about the plastic Chaos lord one.

try to use a spray can? i can see you coated the black by painting

and don't be so serious about each model, try to paint a new one instead of repainting them again and again (it gonna be worse !!)

THEY ARE CHEAP !!

haha, every time i see your work i think, great conversion! and then it looks like you tried to paint the model with a wall roler.

do you just not enjoy painting or something? your clearly a talented converter, and ive seen some of your pencil artwork, your clearly a talented artist.

next time you think of doing a model, dont start a new one untill you have finished the old ones! and by finished i dont mind sprey it black and tip a pot of red over it.

well i completley scrapped the model and made another one, this one looks slightly more like mayuri (skull colored face instead of white with a black mask) and he has that long finger nail on a power fist and a chainsword :) the paints a bit better too.

I like that bolter B)

Painfully reminding me to take photos of the nearly finished tactical squad. Yay for laziness. ;)

I think you need to make more effort on your models. That's the bottom line. I'm liking your conversions, but your painting kind of ruins the effect. What you need to do I think is go to a GW and ask for a painting lesson. Failing that get a painting guide from somewhere, there are plenty here, and use it exactly. Also I seem to see lots of bits where paint has gone "over the lines" so to speak, you need to go back and correct these, they seriously detract from the models look, don't ignore them, make sure you clean them up. Seems like a lot of effort but it will make your models MUCH better. Finally for basecoating, use a spray can FOLLOWED BY a watered down coat of chaos black to CLEAN UP THE BITS THAT THE SPRAY CAN MISSED. That alone would help you a lot. If you don't use a spray can, use several watered down coats of black paint. You could also benefit from some washes. Another thing that would help you is to use more subtle highlights. Don't go from dark red to light red (I'm looking at the tabard thing), add a medium red in the middle. It works great. Finish off with a thin wash of very dark red and it will work much better. Try using a finer detail brush. This should get your highlights more uniform, they are all over the place at the moment. Still I like the Fluff and the conversion. Though personally I prefer the hand further forward on the bolter, otherwise it looks like he would have trouble holding it.

Hate to critisize so much, but I'm only trying to help. :)

Heh. Well I like the conversion, but the paint job is a little... Meh. I'm not gonna say anything because I know I used to paint exactly like that. I just painted High Elves in blue and white, not Marines in red and black. Don't worry though, as long as you keep painting, you'll get better. I've painted hundreds of minis over a five year period, in all shapes and sizes, and every successive paintjob has been just a tiny bit better than the last. So don't worry, everybody has a few "duds" every once in a while, and with practice I'm sure your painting will improve.
