Emperor's Shadow Chapter

I've only ever seen one other Camo Marine Army and they were painted far beyond my modest skill level, so without much guidance, a rough idea, and the contents of AoBR, I started painting up the Emperor's Shadow Chapter (fluff in the works). Anyways here are the first ones to come off the assembly line. The Tacticals and Dread just need to be based.

Lol. They are so good at camouflage I actually thought they were unpainted with green stuff on them. Sneaky  trying to look like an unpainted army. Not bad, although they need some browns, tans, grays, depending on where they are fighting. The city, The Green fields,or the Deep Desert? Add a little flavor to them! Maybe more of the wooded forest idea? since you have the green already. Maybe make the tan or cream and make it more brown. Then add some black and maybe a little more brown spots on there. To add more of a camouflaged look. Might make them a little more finished too :) Anyway keep trying, it gets easier. Also may I suggest some Wash? Perhaps Badab? or a brown? The Darker may be better if you want them to look like they are blending in.

I'd add either some lines of black to the edges of the Dread's camo, or some Gray cutting across the green and tan, for a US look to the camo. Use a red-brown for a more german look. (US and germans use two different theories behind camo patterns: US breaks up shapes, Germans break up colors). If you're really brave, use both.

Just remember, when painting camo on minis, use a much larger pattern than actual camo. You want to be able to see the shape and color of the mini, and you won't if your camo is to-scale.

Darn I was going for a Rocky Mountain and Evergreen Forest scheme, not blending into someones work bench, maybe I should just switch ideas?

I'm intrigued by the idea of a wash, any recommendations on doing that?

Also any Suggestions on how I should do the robes for the sergeants and the Captain? I was thinking either black, or carrying on the camo, maybe try to make it a bit more detailed.

cheers

I would be very light with the wash. Carefully apply it to sunken edges, etc.

However if you have a test mini it might be worthwhile giving the whole thing a wash just to see how it turns out.

As for the robes, i would recommend either the company colour (first = white, second = yellow, etc.) or black.

Or perhaps reverse the camo scheme (mostly green with grey blotches)
