Brother Atheos
Waaaaay back in september i decided to sort my remaining marines out and finish my CF force. Well, thanks to initial college workloads and other factors i didnt add as muc hto my CF force as i had hoped. With college now suspended until after the Crimbo break i've decided to revisit my mountain of marines and create something i can be proud of and call my own. I present my Howling Griffons (well, my test mini, and an unfinished one at that). Just looking for early feeback to bolster my resolve and actually get a game-ready force sorted out. Yellow side http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/fezuk/IMG_1922.jpg Red Side http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/fezuk/IMG_1924.jpg Also, if anyone has any more fluff other than what is over in the Lexicanum, links or quotes would be much appreciated. elijahdprophet
I like the brassy look of the PF. Is that a heavy wash over a lighter red to get the final color there? Pretty cool. I'll post up some pics as i go and i'll need your feedback (again) as to which head i should use! This is now gonna be an army blog! huzzah! Master Toddius
Glad to see a Howling Griffon thread on the board. This a very rare sight indeed. I like the red side of the armor. The yellow looks, nice and muted. A really Great tutorial on muted yellows is from this guy: http://www.chaosbunnystudios.co.uk/#/tutor...rial/4525393843 I'll be watching this thread with interest. Its like seeing a rare car at a custom car show. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155243-orange-marines-army-blog/#findComment-1813493 Share on other sites
Brother Atheos
Thx for the link Toddius, i've seen it before but i may give it a whirl at some point. With regards to why i went the way i did with the yellow, i didnt want the bright, happy, lets all have a picnic yellow that you get with 99% or the other yellow wearing chapters and wanted something that reflects the slightly more tragic past of the chapter without turning into brown and red. As for why i picked the HGs, well like you said its something that you dont see often. Its a scheme that impresses without being too tedious to paint. On a more productive note, my Captain is assembled and awaiting primer. I'll post a pic up before i prime the little chap and try and post "step-by-step" pics as i go. Feel free to suggest some names for the little guy, as every great leader has a name. Vash113
I've never seen that plasma stormbolter in the termi librarian box O.o did I miss it? The Terminator Librarian blister does indeed contain a combi-plasma storm bolter. Pretty cool looking. Kudos on doing a rare but cool chapter! Commissar Molotov
The Howling Griffons are very cool indeed. (They're also in the January White Dwarf battle report!) Brother Atheos
I really wish you hadnt mentioned that lol. Im gonna have to go and buy that WD now... Step 1 of highlights was done yesterday and im already seeing a few mistakes. i'll fix em up in a bit and crack on with cranking out the last stages of the red and yellow. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/fezuk/IMG_1937.jpg I think i'll only take these up to a small 500pt list initially as its a touch more time consuming to do the whole mini than i had originally anticipated. Maybe i'll add one or two extras later on in hte year. Brother Atheos
Domestic Pets must die... I just got back in and find to my horror that my cat has decided t ouse my painting table as some form of sports arena. On the floor i found this chap all broken and bruised aswell as several pots of paint. One of them (scorpion green) had somehow opened and had spattered accross him in a typical globby fashion. So its the paint stripper and simple green etc for this guy and should that fail to cure him of his ailment, i will have to bestow upon him the emperors mercy :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155243-orange-marines-army-blog/#findComment-1814884 Share on other sites

Brother Atheos
On the upside, its given me the opportunity to rethink this hairbrained scheme of yellow and red madness... just trying out a couple of things and i'll keep you all posted as to what im going to do (after i've killed the cat and fed it to the neighbour). ZiggyStardust
Frehly-made Oranges? Seriously, I don't know. great looking Howling Griffons tough, can't wait too se a Orange painted marine. Wat chapter are they founded from? Are you going to focus on something special or do a "ordinary" chapter? //Ziggy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155243-orange-marines-army-blog/#findComment-1815581 Share on other sites
Brother Atheos
Wat chapter are they founded from? Are you going to focus on something special or do a "ordinary" chapter? Thats also a mystery ;). I'm probably going to be making the most of the combat squads rule in my TAC squads, and take all the free upgrades for em so they will essentially look quite 'codex' but im not sure where im going to go with the HQ slots. The basic captain is pretty awesome, i've got a bit of a Librarian fetish aswell but then again all the special IC are awesome aswell when used in their own context. I'll probably end up going with a "counts as" Calgar in Termi armour or a libby depending on what im fighting obviously. So i guess it will just be a UM carbon copy with a different scheme and history. Anyway, just waiting for the wash on hte armour to dry and if it looks half respectable i'll take some pics.
