AbyssKnight
So this is the first mini of my own I have posted on the site. I am would consider myself a novice painter, so there will be several mistakes, both with the painting of the figure and the photography. Looking for some constructive feedback on things I could improve. I painted this figure over about 6-7 hours. Some things I already know. My highlighting wasn't very good. I tried to blend it in with a black ink wash and it worked ok in some places and just covered up the highlighting completely in others. I had a superglue mishap on the left arm with resulted in superglue getting on the left side of his chest. I went for a darker color scheme than normal for IW. I mixed silver with various shades of grays and black, so hopefully you will still see the metal flake in the paint. I only had access to gloss sealer, and may go back over with matte sealer later though I do like the way he turned out over all. Finally the pics. Again, first time for mini photography so I took a lot of pics trying to get good ones. http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww36/sa...abyBella611.jpg http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww36/sa...abyBella604.jpg http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww36/sa...abyBella612.jpg http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww36/sa...abyBella610.jpg There are a couple more on Photobucket- http://s703.photobucket.com/albums/ww36/samasboy/Warhammer/ Thanks! Kaldoth
Well, for a first try it's not bad. I've definitely seen worse :P A few crits: 1. Thin your paints. As big of a pain as it may be, ten thin coats will always look better than one thick coat. 2. Try brightening up your highlights. Normally with my minis, I use three layers of highlights. One thick highlight, one mid-width highlight, and one very fine highlight on the outer edge of whatever you are highlighting. This is all achieved with, again, thin layers of paint. 3. Practice. That's the only way to get better :( Nobody starts with GD quality painting. Keep at it. From what I can tell, you're off to a good start ^_^ Cheers, -Kal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155259-iron-warriors-warsmith/#findComment-1812948 Share on other sites
