Brother Barkus
Like the topic states I'm an almost two year 40k player looking to play something outside marines. I was thinking of doing a combination of the two Inquisiton codexes. I currently do not own the codexes and wanted to get some help in army planning before buying. So I wanted to hear any advice you gentlemen may have and how competitive would a mix of the Inquisition forces be? Also, I'm thinking of having the witchhunters being my base and the DH being the allies giving me access to some GK awsomness and still putting more bodies on the table. Unfortuantely as stated my knowldge on both armies is limited and your insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155267-inquisition-newb/ Share on other sites
Imperator Mos
Everything in the WH book is money, minus Repentia and Penitent Engines. Your best performing units will be Seraphim, Exorcists, and Retributors in that order. Mechanized Battle Sisters are good, but I'm partial to Arbites. I believe that most Inquisition players on this board stick to their particular Ordo. I know that I dont cross Wh and DH. Sometimes the Deathwatch will show up with Inquisitor Lok. Good luck, and check out the Army list section. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155267-inquisition-newb/#findComment-1813056 Share on other sites
mercenary
Welcome to the Inquisition, glad to see someone interested in playing a combined WH/DH list, which I generally always do myself. If you have had a quick look through the books you will see that there is quite alot of flexibility in the type of units you include from Stormtroopers, Sisters, and Grey Knights. Thats not to mention the inclusion of either Guard or Space Marines aswell, following the restrictions outlined in the books of course. I think you need to gain a basic idea what units you are wanting to include, and base an army structure around that. Like yourself I generally play a WH parent list with allied DH, which does quite well. Having a WH parent list gains you access to the exorcist tank which I feel is one of the best tanks in the game. How you fill out you compulsory HQ and TROOP choices is up to you. I generally include a kitted jump canoness, seraphim and 2 large footslogging sisters squads. I usually field 2 PAGK troop choices which complements the footsloging sister squads nicely, and add some GKT in larger point games. The inherent weakness of DH low numbers is compensated somewhat by the cheap sisters bolstering numbers with awesome economy by having BS4, power armour, and a bolter all for 11 points! Also anti-tank elements which can be lacking in a DH list, are incorporated by the inclusion of WH units. Namely Exorcists, Seraphim and Canoness (Armed with Inferno Pistols, Eviscerators, and Krak Grenades). Finally the sisters real weakness in close combat, is offset nicely by the strength the grey knights bring. Overall I find it is a good combination. You can do it another way of course by including an Inquisitor Lord with 2 squads of inquisitional stormtroopers as a core, and still have access to your exorcists. You can add grey knight units as you like, but can also add space marine units as outlined in the codex. This is the only legal way to get marines and grey knights in the same list, which may benefit you considering the abundance of marine models you could probably include. I much prefer the previous army list build myself, but it is really up to you. Besides plastic stormtroopers with valkyries coming out soon, may just give me the motivation to try something new. Good luck with it all Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155267-inquisition-newb/#findComment-1813066 Share on other sites
Peredyne
One of the Witch Hunters strongest abilities are the acts of faith. Properly used, these can change the tide of battle. The problem with adding GK's into the mix is the possibility of losing faithful units because you selected allies that don't generate faith points. That being said, a WH/DH combo can be truly devastating on the field of battle. The sisters excel at short-range firefights and the GK's are among the best close combat troops available to the imperium. You would only be lacking in predictable heavy support. GK's don't really provide any, and the best sisters HS is the Exorcist.
