Lorenzen
after very little thought and an impulse buy, ive decided to take up the sons of orar as my next project.. i plan on making 1500 points of them for next years uk gt i think (decided against eldar for now) anyway so far i have started on marneus calgar (the impulse buy!) and a tactical squad sargeant conversion. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/sarge.jpg his belt buckle needs cleaning up and then the omega symbol added, other than that hes pretty much done. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/calgar.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/calgarsface.jpg any c&c on this one is appreciated, the gold needs a fair bit of work, but its the red im mainly wanting discussion on.. what do people think of the pink highlights instead of the traditional workshop orange? Brother Atheos
i personally feel it is a touch too pink. maybe some washes of baal red could move it more towards red than it currently looks? Overall, good job so far and awesome sarge conversion Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1815930 Share on other sites
El-Diablo
That conversion of Kantor is spot on. Realy nice pose. As for the red, it's a little too 'fleshy'. Personally i'd glaze it down a bit with some red ink. Should give you a nice rich red while toning down the fleshy colour. Lorenzen
thanks for the advice, i have to ask.. any chance of you sharing the recipe for the red of your sword bearers? :D really impressed by them (and somewhat reminded of blindhamsters old blood angels) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1815947 Share on other sites
El-Diablo
thanks for the advice, i have to ask.. any chance of you sharing the recipe for the red of your sword bearers? :D really impressed by them (and somewhat reminded of blindhamsters old blood angels) No problem - -basecoat Mechrite Red, -overbrush (like drybrushing but with a wet brush) with Blood Red - you might want to use 2 light passes as opposed to 1 thick one. -Edge highlight with thinned down Blazing Orange. -Glaze with thinned red ink (baal red would also work) Hope that helps. Asmodeus' Swordhand
I agree on the red issue. Midian has a great red, you should try it. As usual amazing conversions. Keep it coming. Lorenzen
ok next set of pictures ahoy! first up is a less "fleshy" calgar, hes in need of the red ink/baal red stage still though on his torso.. and his legs are in the old red still to show comparison. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/midiancalgar.jpg next up is part of calgars honour guard.. i was trying to find models that would work well with the ones provided with calgar http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/honourguard1.jpg he'll most likely be getting a nice green mohawk before hes sprayed. and then we get on to the first few tacticals that ive built http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/tactical2.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/tactical1.jpg decided not to waste the helms of pedro and sicarius. oh and finally a really really pip pic of the units sarge http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/orahorah.jpg and ive just noticed the mold line on his helmet.. expect that to be gone by the next set of pics <_< c&c welcome as per usual Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1816697 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
apologies for the double post.. but i need some advice on the vet sarge, im considering painting the helm white, but this leaves me with an issue as to what colour to paint the plume and need some opinions.. atm the choices are red helm with white plume or white helm with _____ plume any suggestions? Terminatorinhell
a blue plume may look nice, don't you think? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1817042 Share on other sites
sgtNACHO
I think a red or white helmet would be fine, then have a striped red and white or blue and white plume. It will look very cool IMO! El-Diablo
That red's definatly an improvement. I would suggest a bit more shading though, not much, just a slightly darker division between plates. The sgt is looking realy good, for the helmet, i'd probably go with white, with a dark blue and white stripped crest. Honour Guard looks ace too. Bigger-than-Jesus
You might want to smooth the base for the crest on the sarge, it's really uneven looking in the last picture. Apart from that though, that is one stolen sarge idea(but for a captain, obviously lol) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1817183 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
shading wise im gonna be going for a mix of dark angels green and red to line the plates etc etc, just wanted to see how the blood red looked first :P i think im definitley going for the white helm on the sarge, still unsure about the crest colour though, im currently between striped with a bit of blue and yellow. Bigger-than-Jesus
For the crest, I'd say black with a thin red strip going horizontally somewhere could look pretty effective with a white helmet Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1817230 Share on other sites
Lorenzen
well recently ive been putting off my sons in favor of building a shiny new warriors of chaos army.. but no longer! got back in action on the old sons and this is what ive come up with.. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd199/typhion/tacticalorar.jpg *please not his bolter covers the lack of attatchments between his loincloth and armour..* really i should be finished the sarge or marneus.. but i kinda forgot which case they were in so started painting up a tactical marine instead! once theyre found ill be doing more work on em later today Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155487-wip-sons-of-orar/#findComment-1834407 Share on other sites
