Dejay
Well i recently got back into 40K after 5 years of not playing/painting and i thought i'd start off again with Ultramarines. This is more or less how they are going to look, just need to add a few finishing touches. What can i do to improve them? Let me know what you think ^_^ http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/3562/imgp5568vc2.jpg http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/imgp5568vc2.jpg/1/w800.png http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3619/imgp5569jk2.jpg http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/imgp5569jk2.jpg/1/w3648.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155545-first-ultramarine-in-5-years/ Share on other sites
lilgrim13
Wow those are really good!! Especially for 5 years away!! One ting I would suggest would be to thin down your paints to get a thinner layer. I put about 3-9 drops of water so its the consistency of milk. Other than that its really good. You already have highlighting on him which is nice. You might want to consider some of the new washed but thats just me I live be them. Bunt no excellent job I can't wait to see more! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155545-first-ultramarine-in-5-years/#findComment-1816804 Share on other sites
Dejay
Which areas would you use the new washes on? I have them but only used brown wash on the gold :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155545-first-ultramarine-in-5-years/#findComment-1816805 Share on other sites

lilgrim13
As Captain Mick said a Black Wash on the metallics and I would say an Asurman Blue (sorry I don't know exactly how it is spelled...) wash on the amour it just brings it more depth. Another thing just to enhance the look of your model is the lenses (the eyes). If you put a lighter red as a large highlight and then some white as a small highlight it would just give your model a nice look. Just picture him in a night fight and all you can see are these two red eyes. Just some thing to consider. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...showarticle=127 do that without the glowing and change the green to red and brown. If you start with a reddish drown and then work your way up it would look really nice. lmyrick
That's a nice solid beginning. I see you've done some edge highlighting. Maybe a bit more of that on the highest raised areas. Looking forward to seeing the whole UM force! I am in the midst of painting up my first UM force also. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155545-first-ultramarine-in-5-years/#findComment-1816859 Share on other sites

Brother Atheos
looks pretty good so far, im sure once you get settled back into the process of painting your brush strokes will refine and then the sky is the limit!
