Warp Angel
Any suggestions as to where I should go for my next Killhammer article? I've got a few ideas poking around in my head. The big one is "Army Construction", but that's a BIG one, and I need to take my time thinking about it. In the interim, it's pretty easy to do a strategy article for each unit type, like I did with tactical squads, or just blanket unit types (troop, fast attack, elite, etc), but that seems pretty straightforward. Is there any other part of the game that you'd like to see examined from a Killhammer perspective? Koremu
An article on HQ selection would be interesting, if a lot wider than previous. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155560-killhammer-strategy/#findComment-1817054 Share on other sites
minigun762
I think HQ could be useful. Typically you have 3 choices, the cheaper support choice, the super killer slaughter guy or the newer army changing ones (Like Khan or Pedro) where you base an army build around them. CosmicBull
Given your lackluster review of Tactical Squads, I would greatly appreciate an analysis of when it is appropriate to take Tactical Squads if other troop choices are available. For example, suppose Bikes as troops are available with the appropriate DA or C:SM special character. Or Terminators (DA). Or Assault Squads (BA). In other words, why should anyone take Tactical Squads if they don't have to? Resv
I would love to see an Article about each type of unit. One for HQ, Elites, Heavies, and Fast Attack. Taking each of these individually and then wrapping it all up with an Article on Army Construction. I really want to pick your brain about Bike Tactics and possible ways to support them, even though I play Chaos Marines. In other words, why should anyone take Tactical Squads if they don't have to? Briefly, I believe that tactical squads have a place in every army. And I play bikes as troops. As well as Ravenwing and Deathwing. And I take Pedro to make my Sternguard Scoring. Every army list I build starts with an HQ and two tacticals with transports. But I'll see what I can do to address troop choices in the Killhammer: Army Construction article. Marlow
Any suggestions as to where I should go for my next Killhammer article? I would like to see you discuss Grey Knights and Sternguard, perhaps compare them to Tactical Marines. Oldenhaller
possibly rather than talking about specific units you could go for 'roles' or effects rather than specific choices or specific units. Area control, fire support, assault, etc etc etc. Just my two penneth ~O Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155560-killhammer-strategy/#findComment-1822764 Share on other sites
Warp Angel
Well, I did the HQ selection. I think what I need to do is go over the "elites", "troops" (not just tacticals), "fast attack", and "heavy", and use that as a base for an all-encompassing "Killhammer Strategy: Building an Army". It's going to take some time not only to do this, but to go back and assemble everything in a format suitable for inclusion in the Librarium thats properly linked and everything else it needs to be so that it's useful to the community when I go back into lurk mode like I've been for the past few years. Warp Angel
The Elites article is up. Plotting heavy support, but I need to refresh myself on the Chaos Codex first. If anyone could PM me to discuss Daemon and Sisters heavy support choices, I'd appreciate it. I've got some questions. minigun762
Looks good so far Warp Angel. I think the best thing is it gives us a consistent vocabulary when discussing units and tactics. Thats what I had tried to do with my army plan thread. If we're all using the same terms and the same meanings, it should make it easier to work out any problems we come across or enhance any unit or idea we come up with. EDIT: Have you thought about discussing the pro/con of specialized vs balanced units? I believe that (in terms of Killhammer) specialized units would maintain a higher K value (to represent their focused weapons/loadout) at the cost of a diminished S value (showing they might face a unit/opponent who is resistant to their weapons). Example: 10 man Dev/Havock squad Specialized: 4 Heavy Bolters Balanced: 2 Missile Launchers, 2 AutoCannons Specialist squad would be more killy against light infantry but against heavier infantry or vehicles they lack the punch of the balanced unit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155560-killhammer-strategy/#findComment-1841587 Share on other sites
Warp Angel
That's all being saved for the Army Building article when you talk about required roles, role synergy, redundancy, and overall capability. Understanding strong matchups, weak matchups, and close matchups, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/155560-killhammer-strategy/#findComment-1841662 Share on other sites
Warp Angel
Well, the Heavy article is up... only Fast Attack left before I can start working on Killhammer: Army Building and start formatting things for a Librarium installation. I'm thinking about putting together Army specific Killhammer articles. While I can probably do most of the armies on my own with a little bit of research and some specific questions, I'd much rather work with a "guest" author who uses Killhammer to talk about their pride and joy, whether it's Space Wolves, Black Templars, or Sisters of Battle. If anyone's interested, reply at this thread or PM me. Thanks in advance!
