BULLDOG TITAN BUILD!

Full-choke

Recommended Posts

I completed the framework for the head of the Bulldog Titan project. We finalized design for the most part last week so I am starting on that for now. I think I am going to end up building this piece by piece, so plan to look at the head for a while. It measures about 3" wide at the back, almost 4" long and 2" tall. I was hoping to have it in card by the end of the weekend but I think that is a small hope now. There is going to be a lot of pieces to mismatch together so I think it will take me a while. I am also waiting on some more plastic that Iordered last night, hopefully it will get here early next week and I can finish it up. If I get to a holding point I am sure that I will move on to the body frame or something. Anyways, here are the pictures...

I know they are kind of blurry, kind of hard to get the camera to focus on a small object in a large room.

Q&C very welcome as I am still doing minor design changes as I go. The little things that can't be done or that would be extremely hard to do when scratch building are getting changed but nothing else for the most part.

Hi Ryan,

Looking good so far, very similar to where the design started off. I like that the 'snout' is quite long, it will help with the dog-like feel this titan deserves.

With any luck i'll be online a fair bit between xmas and new year and i'm preparing some feedback on the fluff for you.

Have a good christmas folks!

Yes, extremely rigid, lol. I used to build out of balsa wood for framework, then I moved to chunks of old sprues when I ran out of wood. I liked working with the plastic a lot better so I just progress on to the plastic tube. It works really well, I like doing it this way better then anything else I have seen/done. The only thing is that it is not sturdy at all unless you add bracing and such all the way across. I found that out the hard way in the Warhound build...wanted to throw the thing against the wall at one point from breaks when I built that head. This one is much more rigid, I like the look of this head design a lot better too.

Hmm. I thought everyone did a bracing/frame of a sort. All the time. I will be when I make my Lucius Warhound. Well, looks good. I think you should do the Lucius pattern teeth for the front, since it is a canine-esk build.

Are you supergluing AND Green Stuffing AND pinning those joints? I can see some small holes, and theres bunches of green patches =-D not sturdy. SUPER sturdy. ahah.

I'd love to read and write fluff for this thing.

Shorts - Fluff is on the way, it is still WIP for final draft yet. Also, I am only supergluing the joints. The green is from a permanent marker I was using to mark on the plastic so I knew where to put pieces. The small holes are from the plastic tube, It is square plastic with a round hole through the center, helps keep it light in weight and sturdy in form.

Sons - It worked okay the last time I used it on my regular warhound build. But, like each and every time I do another project I learn a little bit more. It looks really weird (and is extremely hard to vision) when it is in the framework. Sometimes I even have to put some plastic card on it before I can proceed, just to see it take some more form. It is hard, kind of like when a house it built, it is hard to see what the inside (and out) will look like until it starts taking more form.

  • 3 weeks later...

Making some progress. I was really busy over the holidays so I couldn't make much progress on it. Things are finally starting to come around again and I got some time to put forth. I have carded in the head (at least the bulk of it), still need to do all the detail work. I have completed the frame on the main body and started to card it in last night. I am hoping to have both body sections carded and ready for green stuff by the weekend, and hopefully I will be working on legs next week. Fingers crossed I am wanting to have it finished by the end of the month, Valentine's day time at the lastest.

Anyways, here are the pics:

Happy gaming,

Yup, a lot of the trimming work happens at the end. It will smooth over more once I get green stuff on it and start sanding that down. I will keep posting pictures of the progress, should have the main body carded hopefully by Thursday night. The little back end and the green stuff is hopefully going to happen saturday when I go into the hobby store to work. Then next comes the two parts I am dreading, legs and detail work. I have no clue where to begin either...

Al- Do you have the Bulldog draft pimped out with gear yet or not? It might help me get an idea of what I could do with the detail work. I'm afraid I am going to hit a brick wall on that one...I have some ideas on the legs, but it is the joints that are really going to throw me for a loop...

Undecided right now, I ran my normal warhound in an Apoc game a couple of weeks ago. I had it mounted up with a Mega Bolter and Turbo Laser. I loved the Mega Bolter, the Turbo-Laser did so-so...

I think one will certainly be the Mega Bolter or the Inferno Cannon, both of those seem like they would do extremely well against both Tyranids and Demons, and prolly Orks too. Which aside from CSM that is what I face the most at the hobby store I play at. Depends on how it all looks size wise, it might go Reaver if I feel it is too big for a Warhound. I don't think it will be if it stays looking the same as it is right now.

So...based on which it becomes...

Warhound: Vulcan Mega Bolter and most likely an Inferno Cannon. I think those would be most valuable against what I face.

Reaver: Melta Cannon -or- Laser Blaster, Gatling Blaster and Apoc Missile Launcher.

I have an idea for the leg joints.

On a piece of terrain that I once did, I took two bottle-caps and glued them together to look like a joint for a giant satellite dish thing...

A picture:

The little ridges in the side of the bottle-caps look very nice, and I imagine you could add a ring of plasticard to either side for more detail.

That sure beats my idea! I might have to go home and try it out for size. I don't know if I can find something that I will use enough caps from but I can try it at least.

My thought was to find some PVC pipe fittings and start hacking and gluing away until they started to look like something. Time comsuming and sometimes provides you with absolutely nothing in the end...

Well, did more work on the main body last night. I am hoping that by the end of the weekend I will be ready for green stuff and have detail work done by the end of the week next week. I have some plans on legs and feet now, I have been doing some thinking and have a good idea. Anyways, here she is so far:

Once again, still VERY rough, but it will smooth out. The green stuff will fill all the holes and cracks. Then I get to sand for about 2 days straight, yay me. I think it will look real good when I get it all done in the end. Still lots more time to put into this thing!

F-C

Looks pretty cool so-far dude! Keep it up.

Also you might only need 2 bottle caps... I figure you could just use one, and cover the opening with a piece of plasticard... The plasticarded side would face in, and the normal one would face out... Then just add details.

Of course, PVC might work too. Hmm.
