Troop capacity on pre-Heresy era Warships

Ok so the rough estimates are that a modern SM Strike Cruiser will pack one Company approximately while the average Battle Barge brings 3 Companies to the fight.

Seeing as how the Traitor Legions didn't use either vessel, what is the overall capacity for their Warships?

During the Great Crusade every kind of vessel was used, so chaos forces wuold still have battlebarges or strike cruisers either from the Great Crusade, the Heresy or in the long war ever since.

The also have a host of many ships that have never been mentioned.

list of ships used by the death guard during and after the heresy............

* Endurance - Capital Ship

* Indomitable Will - Capital Ship

* Spectre of Death - Capital Ship

* Terminus Est - Capital Ship

* Undying - Capital Ship

* Reapers' Scythe - Battle Barge

* Stalwart - Battle Barge

* Barbarus's Sting - Strike Craft

* The Eisenstein - Frigate (destroyed)

* Valley of Haloes - Supply Hauler (destroyed)

we can probably take from this list that they used mostly capital ships which would have the capacity to house many chapters of marines and support :)

And we also know that the Terminus Est is a slightly more advanced despoiler class.

Really? As far as I knew it was always talked about as a Space Hulk they randomly found floating about without any resemblance to any craft the Imperium had thus making it Dark Age of Technology / Golden Age era.

The Terminus Est was one of the first capital ships assigned to the Death Guard by the Emperor. It was of a unique design that pre-dated the Great Crusade and which was copied in M36 as part of the Gareox Prerogative to create the Despoiler class. As might be expected the older vessel was considerably more powerful than the later copy, although nothing definite is now known of the pre-Heresy configuration of Terminus Est.

seems the despoiler class ships were taken from it.............

I'd say at least 4 companies on a Warship seeing as on Horus' ship there was always the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 10th companies onboard.

So by that logic, would it be safe to assume that a pre Heresy Battleship or equivalent sized craft would be about equal to a current Battle Barge?

Rather, I'd say that per the Terminus Est logic (as shown above) pre-heresy ships would rather be very more advanced and very more powerful than current ships which are merely attempted replicas of earlier designs.

So it would be safe to assume that most pre-heresy ships are more powerful than current Battle Barges. (Granted of course that Battle Barges simply are a term for a general variant of ships and not an actual ship type it's always possible that there are a few Barges that are as powerful or maybe even more powerful that some of the pre-heresy ships.

None of this is really pinned down or concrete as the relative power and size of various ships, titans, etc varies from source to source. Suffice it to say that they carry "a lot" of marines, and that whoever is to be bombarded by one of these ships is in for a very bad day.

i'l second TDA on this one, we know from the recent mechanicum novel that the imperium was in better shape before the heresy with great volumes of data for constructing vessels probably destroyed on mars during the heresy.
