Ultramarine 4th Company

Great army!

I really like the Marine with the plasmagun, leaning over to the plasmacanon guy, probably saying something like: "I bet your cannon will get hot" :)

Yeah, can't take credit for the idea. Someone on heresy online came up with it. I just borrowed the idea.

Is it just me or is there some Tac symbols on the ML dev squad?

But anyway that is one fantastic army Gareth! DAMN! I Really hope my army will be up on that point value. And still keep a high standard. Not as high as you but still.

How long did this army take to paint?

The devs were originally in tac squads. I've been meaning to change them. All in all around 6 months of work spread over 2007 and 2008. That includes all the UM models, not just the 4th company ones.

Well if thats not inspired me to finish my 3rd company off nothing will! 50 marines and 4 rhinos to go!

A wonderful army you have there. Id be a very proud chap if i were you.

I am. Will be more proud of myself when I hit 7,000pts and keep my promise to myself to buy a thunderhawk.

Hey Gareth, where do you get your plasticard? None of my local hobby shops carry it and I can't find anything suitable at local home improvement/craft/etc stores either. Do you know of any good websites to order it from?

I'm planning a DIY Warhound Titan project for after I finish my Ultramarines additions and other projects but I can't find a good place to get plasticard.

how in the world did you paint up those swords on the command squad? they look like they are actually made of metal. very nice army anyways. to have that many models and be over TT quality is quite a feat, you are truly awesome.

They're nmm but using blues. So you get a power weapon feel to the blades.

Nice! They look very clean  Amazing quality for so many models.

Thank you.

Wow...

Pure awsome!

:)

Thank you.

That is an absolutely stunning force!

How long has it taken to get to this far? Also, if I may ask, how have you painted that lovely blue on the armour of each marine? It looks fantastic!

Cheers

Dan

6 months worth of work, spread over 2007 and 2008. It's Ultramarine blue from the vallejo game colour range, airbrushed on.

What did you use to raise the circles before putting on the squad #'s on your rhinos? (hope that made sense)

I need a small perfectly circle disc. Cutting my own resulted in a failure. After scouring my desk, I found that disc magnets were perfect.

Thanks for the kind words battle brothers!

It's always nice to see a completed company on the tabletop, are you going to add anything from other areas of the Chapter (such as 1st Company, 10th Company or the armoury etc)?

Already have. Here is a quick snap of everything on my book shelves.

I'm aiming on collecting these datasheets.

Battle Company

Masters of the Chapter

Line breaker squadron

Predator Assassination squadron

Ancients assault force

Terminator Titan Hammer formation

Thunderhawk gunship

(Should total around 8500pts once done)

im loving the 4th company, im hoping your inspiration come from the ultramarines books, love the sargents and im hoping my force looks as good as that when im done. i got to ask tho...what is a predator assassination squad and ancients assault force? and where can i find the rules for them as i love predators.

keep up the good work my friend.

amazing job as always Gareth, I love the "it may get hot" plasma marine!

Agreed - he shares the top spot with the 'new codex' marine holding his head in his hand. Fantastic job on having the vision and patience to create such a unique and well painted force. (how do you paint that plasma by the way?)

That is incredible! :)

Better get ready for that Thunderhawk, cause 7000pts aint far away! :to:

Its nice to see a full company, its a real milestone and you should be really proud!

Quick question, how do you do your metals, because I really like the bluish tint.

Amazing work, definitely what I want to see for my own Ultramarines in time. Naturally I have many small questions if you can help me! I'm in the process of working on my own army painting, so pointers would be great.

If you wouldn't mind, what are the dimensions of the hatch arrow for the rhinos? I'd love to put one of those on my own.

Do you hand paint the omega on their shoulder pads? Any tips for how to do these? My marines are badly needing these, and the water transfers are just total trash for curved surfaces (in my hands anyway).

What do you use to apply the white text/scriptures on your models? Brush, toothpick, etc.? I have a paint pen, but it is far too wide for this kind of work, and it's something I've been wanting to add.

What colour did you use on the front of the rhinos around the armoured window hatches? Is it he same as the heavy bolter feeds?

What red(s) did you use on the sashes/loin cloths for your marines? What highlights/methods did you use for them?

Did you get the flourescent vallejo in store, or did you have to order those? I don't think I've seen them around so I imagine I'll have to be ordering them. Definitely the best glow I've seen for plasma weapons.

What colours and methods do you use for your rust effects?

What colours are you using on the coils on your lascannon barrels? (I am looking at the coils on your TL lascannon from a razorback)

Answering any of these would be highly appreciated and likely be very useful on my journey to a fully painted battle company.

Again, beautiful work!

Ok, I'll try.

It's the width and length of a rhino top hatch.

I haven't used any transfers anywhere on the army. It's all freehand. I didn't use white for the icons, instead I used an off white. Vallejo wolf grey. Goes on smoothly and less coats then white. The tip to painting the U. Is paint a big circle. Then paint a rectangle across the top. Then paint a smaller circle with blue within the bigger circle. Then paint a blue vertical line through the centre of the rectangle to the small blue circle.

I use a brush. No tricks, just practice.

What colour did you use on the front of the rhinos around the armoured window hatches? Is it he same as the heavy bolter feeds?

Yeah, it's something like brazen brass, flesh ink, then glorious gold (vallejo colours).

What red(s) did you use on the sashes/loin cloths for your marines? What highlights/methods did you use for them?

Black undercoat -> scarlett red + dark flesh basecoat -> Build highlights up to Scarlett red.

What colours and methods do you use for your rust effects?

It's just painted on. No real method, trick is knowing where to put it. I don't think I'm 100% there yet. Colours are bright orange + cobra leather. Nice rusty colour.

What colours are you using on the coils on your lascannon barrels? (I am looking at the coils on your TL lascannon from a razorback)

Hammered Copper.

Again, beautiful work!
