Prospero Burns!

He was shorter than most primarchs, but stout...

Are you sure about that?

Here is what is written in the 2nd ed Codex on page 5.

"Leman Russ was the most ferocious if the Primarchs, a giant even among the Emperors chosen, a great brawling warrior, fiercely loyal to his friends and a terror to his enemies."

Has this description actually changed? If so when and where?

I don't think Russ being described as short is in any text. I'd love to see it. Until then I'd have to rely on the 2nd Ed. codex description. Either way, there is no denying Russ was(is <_< ) a ferocious primarch of the Imperium.
Well Russ was probibly of the mind that "Horus says the Emperor says" so that was good enough for him, add to the fact Russ and the Wolves distrust Magnus already due to his past and "present" dabbling in the arts that their father told them was bad.....I doubt he would even cared much.

Abnett is a damn good writer though, I just hope that since it is focused on the Wolves in this book that the Wolves aren't just made out to be ale swilling barbarians only interested in drinking and killing.

there not just ale swilling Barbarians interested in only drinking and killing???!?!? fooled me :pinch:

Don't know if any of you has seen that on the black library site

Changes to the Schedule

Please see below for detail of updates to the Black Library release schedule.

Important dates to note:

Blood Pact on sale November 2009

A Thousand Sons on sale March 2010

Prospero Burns on sale April 2010

2010, The Battle for Prospero begins!

Written by Dan Abnett and Graham McNeill, two of the Black Library’s most esteemed authors, this milestone in the Horus Heresy chronology was deemed too big, too momentous to cover in a single novel… Which is why the Black Library is proud to present its first Horus Heresy duology:

A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns!

These two novels will interweave like no others before them. Both Dan and Graham are working closer than ever on this two-part story that can be read in any order, and charts the pivotal, historic conflict between Magnus the Red’s Thousands Sons Legion and the indomitable Space Wolves of Leman Russ.

Revelations abound in this tragic epic. The fate of a Legion is decided. A hero will fall. The Horus Heresy will NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.

To commemorate this auspicious milestone, the Black Library will be doing something it has not done with the Horus Heresy so far – both novels are going to be released just a month apart!

The sheer amount of work and collaboration that is going into the duology means that we will now be releasing A Thousand Sons first in March 2010 with Prospero Burns to follow in April 2010. It’s a little longer to wait for Dan’s instalment, but the additional time he and Graham will be able devote to the two novels will be well worth it.

Personnally I've already begun to sharpen my frost axe... :P :P :) ^_^ B) :D

I second this. I'll not be on the list of those that described Russ as short when he returns. I'd like to think this Wolf Lord has a little more sense than that.

Good luck guys. :(

Yeah they'll make it like its our fault and that Russ was manipulated by Horus no doubt

But it was Horus that manipulated the Emperor's message to Russ. The Emperor wanted Russ to apprehend Magnus and bring him to Terra to stand judgement.. Horus changed the message so that it ordered Russ to destroy the Thousand Suns.

Dudes.. step out of character a bit. The Thousand Sons were screwed by Horus. In their despair they turned to Tzeentch for deliverance.

Am I the only one who thinks McNeill's writing isn't that great?

Yeah they'll make it like its our fault and that Russ was manipulated by Horus no doubt

I'd have rather seen Mitchell, but McNeill isn't terrible.

The goes against the fluff in Visions of War where the All Father (who is this Emperor guy?) goes into a rage when he finds of that Magnus has breached his direction on the use of magik and sent Russ with a strong force of Custodes and Sisters of Silence to bring the Thousand Sons to heel.

I always believed that the Emperor ordered Russ to destroy the Thousand Sons, interdict Prospero and bring Magnus back to Terra as a prisioner. Of course, Horus manipulated everything in the Heresy - The Ultrasmurfs, the Fists, all the traitors... so I remain open to the idea that by hook or by crook, Horus manipulated Russ into overstepping the mark.

Of course, the most obvious answer is... Alpharius did it. :tu:

From what I understand....

The revelation that Horus manipulated Russ is now canon as the novel comes later and the story line is approved by the "master of fluff" for GW....Rick Priestly. I've never liked the idea myself that the emperor would be so reactionary as to send the space wolves against a brother chapter, before speaking with their primarch first. Which as the HH novels show, was his intent which Horus skillyfully intervened and whispered sweet nothings about sorcery and warp creatures into Russ' ears.

The "Visions of War" series make it clear that the Allfather directly ordered Russ to visit violence upon Magnus because his psychic message had caused a breach in his terrestrial link to the webway, unhinging his plan and endangering the whole Imperium.

It's laid out pretty clear throughout the series that Russ was instructed by the Allfather to destroy the power of the Thousand Sons least their dabbling in the Warp further endanger his efforts to replace dependence on warp travel by (safe) use of the webway. thereby freeing mankind from dependence on psychic abilities and the dangers therein.

That Russ went with a sizeable contingent from the Legio Custodes under their commander, along with a number of Black Ships and Sisters of Silence, reinforces official sanction to the mission.

However, as you indicate, it may be all change once the new books come out ;)

That as already be established in Galaxy in Flames by horus himself.

Would that be the same Horus who betrayed the Allfather and whose word can therefore be taken as lore  :P

Still, the previous story does show that the Allfather has feet of clay so going with Horus' version would also follow an Eccllesiastical view of events...

Yes, and that is the line I followed until I read HH novels. We'll have to see how/if they mention it in our new Codex.

IMHO I think it adds more drama between us and the T.Sons if we attacked them without true provocation. It makes enmity they have for us, and the desire to return the favor when they invade Fenris, all the more powerful. This only enhances our rivalry.
