ThomKovacs
Right, first off I haven't done any modelling for about 10 years, picked up the AoBR box shortly after reading Eisenhorn (awesome read!). Chosen Black Templars because they arent the most conventional of marines and their colour scheme looks great. After looking at everyone elses impresive minis I felt I had to add a pic of mine! So far I have this guy as my standard for future marines, please feel free to give me pointers on anything I can do to improve him! (I'm aware that the seals need a slight yellow tone and scripture but I dont have the paint/tools to do that yet) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3207/3148252899_2dbb1feccc.jpg?v=0 Edited for additional thread content. Master Kashnizel
It looks really nice and the highlights look very clean. You might want to go over the red with another coat because it looks a little patchy. It might just be the photo though. I can't wait to see more! Kurasuke
I think that the reds could be a little bit more bold/bright but this model is nice and clean looking. Terminatorinhell
wow thats good converting, ar first glance I thought it was an older model but then I took another look and realized it is the AOBR sarge... ShinyRhino
He looks great so far. A few things I'd make sure to do: - Some sort of flesh wash on his head. - Drill the barrel of his bolt pistol. - When you yellow the purity seals, hit the white cloth as well. I think the reds are just fine as they are, but that's a personal choice issue. I never was able to stomach bright red on Marines. ThomKovacs
Thanks for the tips. Glad you liked the conversion, the AoBR Sergeant didnt fit as a BT so I felt he needed tweaking. I've now drilled out his barrel, will touch up the parchments next time round. Also got a few pictures of him and the rest of his 5 man squad - note that their shoulder pads have been cleaned up to remove the tactical squad markings you get with the AoBR set. I've also got a few pictures of the rest of his squad, of which they will be 'shooty' with 1 plasmagun. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3249/3156756659_e6dde3f3e7_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3087/3156756655_1f8144e454_m.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3085/3156790211_08468b7bcb_m.jpg I'm interested in any feedback, thanks in advance! imagine28
Nice templars bro! I like how you are using a lot of red in yours, I am actually trying to the same thing with mine. And again, very clean work. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156032-black-templars-crusade-in-progress/#findComment-1826804 Share on other sites
ThomKovacs
Nice templars bro! I like how you are using a lot of red in yours, I am actually trying to the same thing with mine. And again, very clean work. Thanks! I feel the red makes them more eye catching, especially as it is already one of their codex colours (for Sword Brethren). I've also got a few more pictures, need shading and cleaning up but they are almost ready to go - excluding bases which I havnt decided on yet. What do you think of the Plasmagun green? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3095/3163687142_5805db7b75.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3120/3162878257_05eb7e5997.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3271/3163708094_a10a17c831.jpg?v=0 The Last mini is of my potential Emperors Champion, converted from a Vet marine with chaos sword and BT bitz - what do you think? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3077/3162856177_cddbac9147.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/3162877489_8c19bc7257.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3255/3162876807_b3c308080c.jpg?v=0 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156032-black-templars-crusade-in-progress/#findComment-1828313 Share on other sites
Wink
They look good, but I would hit the red with a dark red or brown wash. The EC looks really nice, I like how he has the same walking pose as the real one. Comizzar
Maybe add some ink/wash into the plasma coils? ThomKovacs
Right, might go back and touch these up a little at a later date but they are pretty much done now except for drilling barrels, transfers and basing (waiting on a hand drill). Looking at the pictures I'm not too happy with the plasmagun.. any suggestions? http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1114/3173700898_ec0f0159b3.jpg?v=0 http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1330/3173701350_a2e7937dc4.jpg?v=0 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156032-black-templars-crusade-in-progress/#findComment-1831598 Share on other sites

cathar the great
Your painting is very clean but you should water down your paint a little bit and use more layers and shading. With your clean style they surely look great. And good job on the power fist conversion, stuff like that makes me itch all over for a Black Reach Box Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156032-black-templars-crusade-in-progress/#findComment-1832407 Share on other sites

Starbuck_
Very nice and neat. IMHO the emperors champion always need a disproponatly big sword. Something I've seen done every well on the AOBR models is drilling out the head and adding different ones in. The goes for the pads. Just adds a bit of variation to them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156032-black-templars-crusade-in-progress/#findComment-1832478 Share on other sites
ThomKovacs
Been quite busy past month or so and havent had a chance to do that much with my Templars, however recently I've been able get back into the rhythm of things and I have a few more pictures for you. I'll get round to trying out some semi-advanced (for me!) basing, desert/urban with a bit of static grass, but we shall see. First of all I've applied transfers to my original 5 man squad and I'm quite happy with the results, using what I've learned from B&C made it a doddle (Note. the PFist has had his base cleared up since the pic): http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3570/3387667581_29278989d9.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3608/3387666905_d1a7502cc2.jpg?v=0 I also have a few sneak peaks at what I'm working on next (the armless guy in the centre will be Las/Plas Cannon): http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3646/3388475000_904fa2b282.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3437/3388473226_3fc40eacd4.jpg?v=0 The dread is now magnetised and has TLC, AC, ML options (Forgeworld), as well as the AoBR default MM and PF. Will try and get some pics this weekend if I get time. Also looking for ideas for my next splurge, I'm thinking another dread, but I'm aware that there is a lack of fast attack choices, so any suggestions is much appreciated! C&C welcome! Eight
I think they're bloody brilliant. =D It's exactly the sort of black I've been trying to get for my Chapter...just never got the hang of painting the damn colour. ThomKovacs
Not a huge amount of progress as I've been unable to stop buying more bitz and pieces for my crusade. I think I have enough now to field 1500pts with the only armour being in the form of 2 dreadnoughts! But not only have I been buying more models I have been magnetizing... Both of my dreadnoughts (AoBR) are magnetized including extra weapon options, squad of terminators (see below pic for example) and then a few marines done with jumppack options. Only a couple of pictures for you, so I apologize in advance, I'm quite happy with them so far although there is still a lot to do (highlighting, transfers and basing :ermm: ). I think the termi colour scheme should fit in well with the rest as most of the GW termis have all/mostly black colour schemes which I find a bit plain. What do you think? Ok, so first of all we have a terminator with magnetized cyclone missile system: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3592/3474278628_69aa2c87e2.jpg?v=1240687924 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3612/3473468821_dfe351b29c.jpg?v=1240688148 Example of magnetized initiates: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3413/3474315112_31dc2bcc92.jpg?v=0 Group shot of a couple of initiates with above termi: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3576/3474277598_fd439765f0.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3588/3474276630_f28d836a90.jpg?v=0 I've gone for a very *pure* BT feel with the white so far, does this look okay? I'll be basing a batch soon on a desert/sand (should have pics of that next week). C&C welcome as always! Karitas
WoW, the cyclone missile launcher got big while i was away, jeezum ;) Nice, clean work so far, look forward to seeing them with highlights on the white looks great on the guy on the right and the termie, and a tad "flat" on the guy on the left. I dont know ifit's the camera angle, or that the shading is adding to it, that tabard looks like a pencil sketch especially in the second photo, its quite cool:) My bet would be that it's just the photograph as i've seen some of the things my camera does to my minis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156032-black-templars-crusade-in-progress/#findComment-1967249 Share on other sites
ThomKovacs
Thanks Karitas, I've finished the highlighting on the Termi, just needs metallics and a few lil bits and it'll be ready for basing. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3543/3476554600_2276e3895b.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3323/3476555268_982dc59960.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3573/3475747507_88a002121b.jpg?v=0 C&C welcome! ThomKovacs
Thanks everyone for all your encouragement so far, I already feel like my painting is getting better as I grow with confidence. Now in a shocking move to make my quite 'clean' looking Templars a bit more rough and ready I have been advised to use a Devlan Mud wash. Now I still havent got round to basing any models yet (I do apologise!) but I have got a few more models finished. Dirty Tabbard: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3606/3488769632_41213cf184.jpg?v=0 A couple of pics of my yet to be based semi-finished Templars: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3328/3488769312_e36c663219.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3551/3487954045_972b04c193.jpg?v=0 As well as those I thought I'd show how I had used a couple of the Black Reach bolter wielding guys as special weapons, using magnets! I've got two of these guys done with 2x Melta, 2x Plasma and 1x Flamer options (weapons arent painted yet). What do you think? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3415/3487953345_0e66791829.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3339/3487953681_730564f9e5.jpg?v=0 All feedback greatly appreciated. SpudWhitman
I think that's a splendid use of AoBR marines and the mud wash gives a coherent look to the models.
