"Dark Disciple"

Recommended Posts

I haven't finished reading the book yet but here is what I can say so far.

I think that it is a fairly good read and it has resparked my love of the Word Bearers. It let on some new info such is that there are 32 books of Lorgar and that 32 is the sacred number of the Word Bearers and Lorgar.

I also like how the author is stoking the fire of Kol-Badar and Marduk's hate for each other...So far so good.

A couple of problems I have with the book are that Burias never seems to talk at all and I feel that he isn't as big as a character as before and that is dissapointing.

I also feel like the author has reused alot of decriptions from "Dark Apostle", such as talking about a Land Raiders weightless-ness as it goes over a hill or talking about Marduk's Sword's hunger for blood.

Personally I like Marduk better than Kol-Badar. Even though Kol is supposed to be the strategos he is a brute and only likes the direct path. Marduk on the other hand is a great warrior and is adept at stratedgy....In fact I based my own Dark Apostle off of him but you are intitled to your opinion...

One thing I really liked was the Warmongers helmet. The way the author described how it looked was pretty cool. I wish I could have it myself.....

I know, Marduke wasnt that bad. But it seems like they should have gotten on a bit better. Marduke will in all honesty made a good Apostle, and you couldnt ask for a better LT as Kol.

Myself if I had been in eithier of thier boots i would have tried to make peace with the other, if anything for the good of the Host.

I hate how all of the word bearers drop like flies and how most of the time they shoot two guys with bolter fire. Also the way combat scenes play out sometimes. Arrgh!

But apart from that it is really good stuff. I am so far up to the part where Marduk has been captured and he is pinned on the wall. I just wonder how he will get out of it! :)

Darioq-Grendh'al: Such a fun character. I think he is portrayed very nicely.

Kol Badhar needs a bit more attention I agree, such an excellent character like Burias Drak'shal, who is pretty damn sweet!

I agree with what all you guys just said!!!

@Argon: If they came out with a book of Lorgar or Epistles of Lorgar then non-believers would read it and release untold panic and mayhem on Earth...THERE WOULD BE DEAMONS EVERYWHERE CUTTING PEOPLE APART...I wish they did come out with one...

@Redbaron: I don't think Kol will ever make peace with Marduk...After all Marduk did kill his brother.... And your right Kol Badar is the best Coryphaus you could ever ask for...Its just that Marduk knows Kol wants to kill him and he likes to play on the fact that Kol can't....its quite evil if you think of it....

Ok before i give my opinion a few things:

1. I don't look at these books from a fluff perspective I read them as i enjoy reading sci fi. I look for a good time not how strictly they adhere to the fluff

2. I still value the parts of a story so don't like it when some things are missing

3. If the characters don't capture me i'm lost.

I'm about half way through it and so far so good. I really liked the first book, it captured me from the onset of reading it. I personally couldn't put it down. The second book has kept up with the amount of pull that it has had on me and so far I have been enjoying it. The prologue was a little unnecessary in my opinion and preferred the one from Dark Apostle as it did a lot more to set up the story. The conflict between Marduk and Kol-Badar is necessary as a point of conflict within the larger conflict and adds to the dynamic between all the players. I do agree that the supporting players are a lot more fleshed out then the main ones but i will live. That and these books make me want to finish Battle for the Abyss so I can get onto Mechanicum.

It was really funny how Marduk got away from the Haemonculus (spelling?) I wish I could have seen the look on his face when Marduk makes his heart stop beating....

Is it me or did what happen to the little kid, Dios, make you want to go emo.....I was so depressed and upset.....Solon goes through all that trouble and the kid is going to die any way....I MEAN COME ON!!

Also did it seem that the Genestealers were a little overpowered? I found it kind of rediculous that they could punch through a Terminator and a Marine's head and helmet with one swing....I knew they were strong but I never knew they were that strong.....

My favorite part by far was when we heard about Sicarus and got a little glimpse of what it was like on the Word Bearer's world. It was awesome to finally see some of the people who were part of the Dark Council and when we heard of Marduk's new army (Thirteen ships and 5 Hosts!!!!!) I felt sorry for any Loyalists who are going to get in the way of the Word Bearers!!! :D

(did any of you guys notice how many of the Word Bearer's items were made from the skin of Ultramarines?) ;)

This book proved one thing to me. Marduk was right....Everything happens for a reason.....The gods (slaneesh in particular) wanted Kol Badar to let Marduk be captured. That way Marduk could kill the Dark Eldar and the god of ectasy could have their souls.....

I am hoping that in the next book Kol Badar will finally find his place, and I also hope that we will finally have some Marine vs. Marine fighting....We can only pray

Yeah this part bugged me a bit because i felt it didn't really belong in the book. It has nothing really to do with Marduke.

I agree that near the end it seemed like a bulking out for it. It just didn't make me care about them. I understand it was in there as a scene set up in several parts. I just finished the book and found it to be enjoyable just wondering if there will be a third or not. I enjoyed all the parts though and thought it was worthy of my time. Now to finish some other Word Bearers related books that are half read.......

@Khârn: Other books about the Chosen of Lorgar???? What are their names?

Battle for the Abyss I am having a hard time reading it. I'm not sure why. I just can't get into it, I'm loving all the WB parts just the ship to ship stuff and the semantic politicking is driving me nuts.

If non-believers read it, they would see the folly in their ways and turn to the worship of true divinites. THEN the daemons would come in and kill everyone. :D

Actually, we show them their folly when we kill them . Either way is good. :)

Got part 2 but haven't read it yet.

I personally always preferred Kol over Marduk.

Most likely poor Kol will end up dead in a later novel.

But i'm looking forward to reading it when i finish the rest of hte huge pile of novels and history books awaiting my attention. Lol.

@Khârn: DON'T EVER UTTER THE NAME OF THAT NOVEL HERE. IT MADE A MOCKERY OF THE CHOSEN OF LORGAR AND SHOULD BE BURNED  ....I mean whats with Word Bearers screaming "All hail "THE WORD".....I mean it made us look like a bunch of bluthering idiots.....a handfull of loyalists taking out the largest ship ever constructed that was filled with Word Bearers....COMPLETE BS...... :cuss

@Argon: You took the words right out of my mouth....You are offically my true brother of Chaos....

@Redbaron: I'd laugh if when Marduk kills Kol he screams "THIS IS FOR LEAVING ME WITH THE DARK ELDAR JERK!!!" :P
