kharn_the_betrayer
@Khârn: DON'T EVER UTTER THE NAME OF THAT NOVEL HERE. IT MADE A MOCKERY OF THE CHOSEN OF LORGAR AND SHOULD BE BURNED ;) ....I mean whats with Word Bearers screaming "All hail "THE WORD".....I mean it made us look like a bunch of bluthering idiots.....a handfull of loyalists taking out the largest ship ever constructed that was filled with Word Bearers....COMPLETE BS...... :cuss @Argon: You took the words right out of my mouth....You are offically my true brother of Chaos.... @Redbaron: I'd laugh if when Marduk kills Kol he screams "THIS IS FOR LEAVING ME WITH THE DARK ELDAR JERK!!!" :cuss Oooops.......I didn't say it was good though. It was only in the last few pages that I have read that it has managed to hold my attention at all. i'm on page 304 and its only now really starting to hold my attention. Its really rare for me to have to force myself to read a book that I want to experience. Aside from fluff stuff that i'm not 100% on (hence why I don't share most of the outrage points) I have just found the book boring and poorly written. DA and DD though were wonderful in comparison. I'm just getting into the WB fluff so forgive me on that point. Redbaron997
@Redbaron: I'd laugh if when Marduk kills Kol he screams "THIS IS FOR LEAVING ME WITH THE DARK ELDAR JERK!!!" :) He deserved it, personally if I had been Kol and when the Possessed told me he was on that ship I just woulda kept going....or just blown the whole ship away. Although I have to admit when Marduk became possessed by Slaanesh (Or more likely a slaanesh daemon) that was frickin awesome...I love see scared Dark Eldar, they deserved it. And yes BFTA was BS, I dont care how awesome of a Space Marines or whatever, it was a whole ship full of Word Bearers...WTH? Although the World Eater parts were cool, My Motto for my World Eaters (other than the usual Blood and Skulls stuff) is "We die free!" minigun762
I finished the book yesterday and overall I was pretty happy with it. Good things/things that made me think: 1) I liked the extra detail they added to the champions and especially Burias. He went from a kinda novel character to much more fleshed out (thought it was kinda funny that he's considered highly attractive). 2) The Dark Eldar were actually portrayed in such a way that they were a threat and kinda scary which made me happy. I didn't want the Word Bearers to just sweep through them. 3) Fighting the Tyranids seems more like it would akin to fighting the weather, its not another army, its a natural disaster. 4) I liked the Genestealer/ship portion, it reminded me of Aliens in alot of ways and hey, that was a great movie right? 5) Rather impressed with the corrupted Magos. Almost makes me want to use an Obliterator, almost... 6) The description of the daemon world was very good, doesn't seem like a happy place to be unless you're friends with Chaos. 7) The hint of a new Black Crusade at the end of the book was quite nice. The Dark Apostle's view of Abaddon as a pale reflection of Horus seems fitting when you think about it. The Black Legion Sorcerer was a nice touch. 8) I liked the descriptions of the daemon summoning. Both made it seem as powerful as summoning daemons should be. They were cannon fodder, but scary nasty cannon fodder. 9) I thought it was odd that Word Bearers didn't like Sorcery and consider it below them. In my mind, alot of the Marduk's abilities would be covered by Sorcery, so where they draw the line is confusing for me. Ok thats enough for right now, overall I give it a 7.5/10. No Storm of Iron but better than the Abyss. Probably better than Dark Apostle I thought. No Storm of Iron but better than the Abyss. Probably better than Dark Apostle I thought. I also liked that the Dark Eldar were portrayed as an actual threat, I think alot of the authors (This book, Iron Snakes etc..) are using DE more to try to get GW to remake them haha. I tihnk the Black Crusade is gonna be the 13th. Most of the new codexs and such have realigned the time line that the 13th is about to, or still happening. As for the WB and not liking sorcerery I can totally understand that. I think daemons can be summuned not only by magic, but by faith and making deals with daemons and such. I dont like Sorcerey myself so im down with it haha. But yea, Storm of Iron was of course amazing, but i agree its better than the abyss, and a lil better that Apostle. Spaakl Daakli
I found Dark Disciple a marked improvement on Dark Apostle, especially in terms of just basic writing technique. The plot lines of both are excellent, but I thought that the first was let down by the author repeatedly resorting to tried & true cliches far too often, and by some very sloppy - if not totally non-existant - proof reading & editorial checking. Even the type-setting was inept in the first book: I found two examples of misspellings which were in all probability not the error of the author. BUT ... I am noting down all the writings and sayings of the Word Bearers in the books for use as banners and devotional texts with my own Host. The book is definitely in the same ball park in terms of overall standard as Storm of Iron, but I would rate it ahead simply because of a greater sense of character development among the prime - supposedly allied - characters. There certainly are a lot of parallels in those novels' plots, come to think of it. And I do accept that this may be my own preference for the Word Bearers colouring my judgement as well  . When all is said and done, the tales of neither Chaos Legion comes close to the quality of any of Dan Abnett's work. I am wading through the Abyss right now (but it's slavish use of hyperbole in relation to the central Smurf character from his very introduction already marks it as childishly unbalanced, imo), but I will be getting Abnett's Inquisitorial saga some time in the next week or so. The thought of having a fallen Inquisitor who was seduced in to the Word Bearers is a salivating good plot line for the fluff of my own army. ("All Praises!")
