Lord Malachi
Hellfire rounds/shells are "poisoned" weapons with a strength of X and a (+2) listed at the end of its description. I looked up poisoned weapons in the little black book (p.42) and it had them listed under Close Combat Weapons. Can I assume that they work the same when used in ranged weapons (i.e. bolters)? Hits on the BS of the model shooting and wounds on a 2+ regardless of targets toughness, correct? Also, I am assuming that the bit about wielder strength vs. victim strength does not apply to shooting? Legatus
You got that right. I think it is hard to misinterprete this one, though you are correct that it might be confusing that the rulebook only mentions poisoned close combat weapons. There are a few weapons that wound on a fixed roll, like Sniper Rifles and Eldar Wraithcannons, so it is not an unusual rule. Only that the ranged weapon is in this case described as "poisoned" is different. It ususlly is stated in the weapons special rules that it allways wounds on a certain roll. In this case the author probably wanted to be extra elegant and have it work without special rule text. Steelmage99
Just making sure we are on the same page, so to speak. Yes, both Hellfire Shells and Hellfire Rounds share the same (poisoned. 2+) wound-mechanic. Other than that, they are two very different things. waaanial00
Just to clarify what I think steelmage99 is getting at - Hellfire shells do not reroll to wound if the targets toughness is less than or equal to the Strength of the wielder. It matters not how strong the person firing the weapon is when they are half a mile away :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156310-hellfire-roundsshells/#findComment-1828073 Share on other sites
Steelmage99
Well, also the fact that one is used exclusively in Heavy Bolters, have a Blast marker and longer range. Bran Scalphunter
Don't mean to threadjack, but seeing as this is about Hellfire rounds, I figured I should put my question here. Under Hellfire rounds it says they are usable only in bolters- does this mean I can use them in Combi-weapons, as the normal weapon is a bolter? Or is it restricted to standard Marine bolters? Legatus
On page 63 of the Codex (Sternguard unit description) it specifically says that the special ammunition also works for the boltgun that is part of a combi weapon. Bran Scalphunter
I'm actually talking about the Character Hellfire rounds, since they don't specifically say that they can be used in combi-weapons. But since the Sternguard has them and says they can, good enough for me.
