Scratch built dreadnought arm (w/ options!)

Having been some what frustrated with not being able to properly WYSIWYG the many weapon's options for the new dreadnought rules I under took a project to try and solve some of that problem. I also felt that this option would be far more economical than going the FW route (although it may not look as good of course).

Being that I am also an avid SoB player with a sandwich baggy of immolator bits I knew I had enough HBs, HFs, and multi-meltas to experiment with. So I set out to build a scratch built dreadnought arm that could mount single or twin-linked weapon systems with one arm.

About the most difficult part so far of the project was getting the right tools and materials:

3.2mm plastic rod (for weapons mounts)

5mm inner diameter tube (to mount arm on shoulder)

variaous pasticard sizes (structure can be about whatever you want to be shaped like)

small pinning rods

3.2mm drill bit

.125x.063" magnets (always a must in just about any project, that uses magnets of course)

So far here I made a pretty hack and slash frame of the mount. I started with a basic sketch then eye-balled the pieces, cut them, fit them and filled and shaved away where needed. The top box frame of the mount needed some pinning for support early on in the structure.

I had to extend the socket that fits onto the dreadnought body and later put a magnet in the socket to aid in holding the arm on. There needed to be enough room between the arm and body for the inside weapon mount

Here is the mount fitted with multi-meltas.

*Note: the immolator weapons are not 3.2mm and are a bit smaller. I needed to bore them out so they would fit on the pins

Twin-linked Heavy Flamers!

So that's where I am at so far. This is really my first scratch built project and has gone good so far. Where I will take it next I will "fill out" the mount so it doesn't look so flimsy on the bottom which will basically consist of bulking it up with card and other things I find. I know it doesn't look like much now. I will also file off the Sororitas icons, not that big a problem.

More later (maybe even with paint!).
