Vash113
Personally I like to keep Grey Hunters cheap, a Melta Gun or Plasma Gun, and 1 Power Fist. Then for my larger squads I add a Wolf Guard Pack Leader with a Power Fist. Plasma Pistols I just didn't use very often and for their points IMO are best not taken. Asterixlee
If I put a wolf pelt on a Space Wolf will my opponent assume I'm assigning them a wolf pelt from the armory? There's a certain distinction there, because it's fun to deck out your packs without spending 3 points per model for wolf pelts. Do you guys use really big pelts for the armory assigned ones? Whats your method? EDIT: Also, I have no clue how I should allocate my wolf talismans and necklaces. I'm just painting a GH and BC squad for now, but I want to do them up roughly the way I want to play them. Problem is I don't know how many points I want to spend on talismans and necklaces yet. It seems like I can't get a feel for that stuff until I start playing, and by then I'll have to convert some of my already assembled/painted troops. Vash113
Honestly it doesn't matter, you can put as much stuff on a model as you please, WYSIWYG only requires models to have what they're armed with, you can put extra stuff on them to your hearts content as long as you make it clear to your opponent who has what. So go crazy, lots of SW models have pelts and talismans and necklaces that don't actually have the wargear, pretty much I only assign those things to Pack Leaders or HQ's, everybody else just has them for looks. Asterixlee
Super, what a weight off my mind. EDIT: Also, Grey hunters don't seem to come with much in terms of CC weaponry aside from some knives and the power weapons. Seems off that they don't all come with chainswords for True Grit? I guess I'm going to convert alot of chaos chainswords for these boys... Vassakov
Yeah, that's pretty much how it is. If you can dig out some spare CC weapons it works, if not just give them knives and such forth. Asterixlee
What's with the helmets with the plague-doctor beaks? They have something to do with the heavy weapons? Vash113
The beaky helmets? No those are MK VI helmets. There are 8 marks of Power Armor with various aspects. Actually the Space Wolves are the only Chapter that can currently do plastic MK VI armor without conversion work. The torso with the Wolf Tooth Necklace and the 3 vertical cables coming down the chest, coupled with a beaky helm and the legs without seperate knee pads together form MK VI, and a studded shoulder pad on the left shoulder. MK IV armor can be gotten from Forge World or in the BT upgrade box. The rest is a various mix of MK V, VI, VII and VIII. The Space Wolves don't particularly care about what type of armor they have or even making complete suits of one mark, so don't feel you have to try to make the pieces match. Asterixlee
Is the armor type just fluff? EDIT: Also, theres a pole with a wolf skull on it in my GH box that looks to be some sort of standard, but theres no banner with which to adhere to it...is it meant to just be a stick that attaches onto someones pack? Vash113
Is the armor type just fluff? Yes the armor is just fluff each mark has no difference rules wise. EDIT: Also, theres a pole with a wolf skull on it in my GH box that looks to be some sort of standard, but theres no banner with which to adhere to it...is it meant to just be a stick that attaches onto someones pack? It's a back banner for a Pack Leader or to represent a Wolf Totem or something, it's from back in the day when banners has no molded flags and you either had to make your own or use a sticker. I like to cut the wolf skull off the top and attatch it to Characters armor and stuff.
