Rules Query: Marneus Calgar´s "God of War"

Recommended Posts

I am of the very simple opinion of if you dont roll dice, thats an automatic pass. So if you dont roll dice for it, its subject to No Retreat. Fearless critters dont role dice, tyranids under synaps dont roll dice, when you use GoW you dont roll dice. No retreat effects them all. If you dont want no retreat, take your chances and roll the dice.

"automatic" is not the same as "by choice" is not the same as "by chance". I used to agree with you.

automatic - a predetermined reaction to an event, happens without any input from the "operator" (player)

By choice - GoW type situation - a test may be passed or failed at will.

By Chance - a die roll.

they are not the same.

I agree with Legatus, frankly. The fact that they are capable of falling back clearly removes them from the set of units affected by No Retreat.

The fact that, as Nighthawks puts succinctly, doing something automatically is different from doing something by choice (and both are distinct from doing something randomly, as you would with a die roll) is really just icing on the cake.

for what its worth, I agree with cale and others - no wounds for choosing to pass - in my mind it has always been the same as rolling the dice and passing... or failing, depending on my choice... - almost like - pretend I rolled double 1's OR double 6's - my choice... just my 2c...
