Question 4: Can my dreadnought counter attack seeing that its is a space wolf, and space wolves counter attack? 1: Yes, Instant Death counts in CC (Power fists on marines are only str 8) 2. No. A storm bolter is not a close combat weapon 3. No. Only a unit assaulting that phase gets the assault bonuses. 4. I have no idea. rat of vengence
1-3 are covered, but as to no. 4... Does the dready have the counter-attack special rule, or do ALL SW have it? Check the codex mate, if it isn't one or the other then no, he doesn't. WarpSpawn
Looking at the special rules section of the SW codex, it only excludes Long Fangs from the counter attack rule. Otherwise, it appears to be an armywide rule. Technically then, I think venerable dreads probably do get to counter attack, the point reinforced a bit by the fact that the crew is described as a space wolf as well I think. Even if this is the case though, I do not believe normal dreads can as they are chosen from Codex: Space Marines, which certainly does not mention SW special rules or SW crew. I guess this is just one of those things they did not give any thought to when they wrote the codex though, as it did not matter for a single, non-IC model in 3rd/4th editions. rat of vengence
Every Space Wolf vehicle has Space Wolf Crew. If it doesn't mention it in its rules, I would think not. Master_Matteo
i'm now left wondering when a space wolf dready would be able to use the counter attack ability.... Oldenhaller
As the rules are written for all units then I don't see why the venerable dreadnought would not get it. It after all gets the other traits such as the blood fued and acute senses. As the dreadnought entry is still in C:SW and just refering to C:SM for the rules would it not still count as a Space Wolf unit (as would any bikes, tanks etc?). ~O Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156744-various-questions-on-the-rules/#findComment-1832977 Share on other sites
LPetersson
The only Space Wolf unit that doesn't have Counter charge are Long Fangs. Yes, dreadnoughts get Counter Charge. True Grit with stormbolters only works for Grey Knights, and the DH codex specifically says that Grey Knight Terminators don't get True Grit. So, there is no situation I know of where terminators get True Grit with stormbolters. Playa
Hey, So they always succes in Counter-attack Ld test? Even better - The SW dex doesn't require Wolf Units to take a Ld test. Counterattack even applies to their adorable, fluffy pets! By RaW, only Long Fangs do not "autocounterattack". Legatus
As per the clarification section in the Space Wolves FaQ the "Counter Attack" entry from their Codex is replaced by the universal special rule from the 5th Edition Rulebook.
