lancer62
I am starting a space wolves army i currently have 5 grey hunters, 5 terminators and ragnar blackmane, i was hope that i could get some suggestions or guidance for what i should purchase for my army. i currently play chaos space marines i usually run a combination of khorne and nurgle depending on the point value of the game. basically i run a lot of beserker and favor an assault heavy force and the space wolves seem to be similar to what i run for chaos or am i mistaken? any help will be greatly appreciated Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156766-starting-a-space-wolves-army/ Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
At first you need the ´dex. You can get him as a PDF for free from the canadian homepage. The minimum size for GH are 6. So you need more. A second GH pack is mandantory. They´re our backbone. Blood Claws have a low BS and WS but a lot of attacks and they´re troop choise too. Most of us have a pack of them included. You´ll need one HQ for every started 750 points. For HQ i would sugest a venerable dreadnought and a Wulf Priest. The ven dread gives you a HQ with heavy firepower and the Wolf Priest...at least he comes with a 4+ inv save and a PW. LPetersson
I would suggest some more Grey hunters, 15xBlood Claws and some HQ choices. Personally I like Wolf Guard Battle Leaders as they're a bit cheaper than Wolf Lords and I haven't really tried Wolf Priests yet. You'll definitely want a Venerable Dreadnought. You can use them as a HQ choice and WS/BS5 is nice. Also, have a look at the 750pts lists here. Personally I like to back my wolves up with some mechanized firepower and it's rare that I don't take up all 3 heavy support slots. I like to hurt my enemy while I'm getting there, so I'd also recommend getting either some Whirlwinds or Predators... Ra1stl1n
Well, imo you should read the dex get an idea of what you want to actually have as a list and THEN buy models... I started out just buying and my landraider is useless for example at this moment. I'll use it in bigger games but up to 2k i didnt put it in after reading here and using the information i got. Good luck and also welcome and have an ale :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156766-starting-a-space-wolves-army/#findComment-1833516 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
a pretty standard army would mean you buy Troops, 2 Grey Hunter squads + what GHs you have. Build 1 for assult and 1 for fire support. Transports Either 2 Rhinos, 1 Razor Back. or 3 Drop Pods, HQs, Ragnar to run with one of the GH setup for assult. BPs and Melta PFs or PWs. WGBL that you can make out of one of the Terminators the other 4 being his Retinue. setup as AC, AC, and CLM for the WGBL if you have the bits, the other 2 setup per points you have left. Nice thing about SWs is we can configure our TDA units in any configuration, but still read the codex for their limitations. Heavy Vindicators Elites, 6 SW scouts and if you can find any Shot Gun models, get 2. 2 PP, 1 Melta, 1 with BP / PW. That will give you the standard Space Wolf units used in almost every list. Bjorn the Fell-Handed
Buy Black Reach, some more green stuff and some spare time to customise out those marines. That will probably get you about 700 odd points, give or take. Happy times indeed. :) ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156766-starting-a-space-wolves-army/#findComment-1835324 Share on other sites

williamdelgray
Well, if you like Khorne armies, for just a little under/over 750 you could use this: 1 Ven Dread As.Can SB DCCW Ex.Ar 2 x 11 BC's 1 flamer 2 PW 1 PF (each) 1 x 11 BC's 1 flamer 1 PW 1 PF I liked it from my switch. Fun times. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156766-starting-a-space-wolves-army/#findComment-1837711 Share on other sites

Wolf89
I started with space wolves and went over the the Khorne side afterwards so I'm not sure if you'd like my list ideas but it's how I played then when I went to Khorne it was 3rd edition so yea. Basically blood claws a lot, one squad of grey hunters (mandatory) inside a razorback, then the rest were blood claws in rhinos... good times. As for now... you can make the same list and be effective, just be sure they're in transports. lancer62
thank you all very much for your suggestions. i was at my local comic shop and found out that if i use my tax return that he got get me the space wolves battle force boxed set through some back channels if i get three or more sets. that would mean i could potentially have 30 or more grey hunters, blood claws, 9 bikes and 3 rhinos would this be a good route to go in may pursuit of a space wolves army. also i like to have lots of models because it gives me the ability run a variety of units to give you an idea i have for my chaos army over 5000 points: 44 berserkers, 37 csms, 7 terminators, terminator lord, terminator sorcerer, abaddon, khorne lord with blood feeder, khorne lord on a juggernaut, lord on a bike, lord, 3 obliteraters, 2 chaos spawn, 10 possessed, dreadnaught with plama cannon and flamer, greater demon, defiler, landraider, rhino, vindicator, and a bane blade hellhammer variant. i know it is alot but since i run black legion i can run a variety of armies cause i rarely run the same army list twice in a row. Ra1stl1n
The battleforce is pretty nice. I've used some chaos torsos in my models they look quite good. Also about the battleforce it gives you bike (which i strongly dislike) but many people in here put them to pretty good use so go get it then some BCs and you're good to go Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156766-starting-a-space-wolves-army/#findComment-1841181 Share on other sites
