Cygnwulf
My apologies in advance for my long windedness in this original post. You can skip ahead to the pictures if you want to. I'll try to keep the updates more concise. So I've decided to begin a project log for this army, as I can't ever seem to keep working on it, and maybe I'll finally finish it. To make a long story short, this army began almost 7 years ago, as a white scars successor. Since then the idea has gone through a few changes in my head, changing in 4th ed to a BaSatW and SbDNbS, bike and infiltrate army (what was I thinking?) to using ravenwing rules, and now I'm back to using C:SM That being said, through all the changes, I never finished anything more than a couple of models. I suffer from a bit of 'painters ADD' and have this chronic habit of jumping from project to project. It's time to change that. I want this whole army finished so that it can be something to be proud of. Aside from one commission job that I'm working on at the same time, this will be the only army conversion and painting job I will work on till it's done. My goal is to have at least one update a week, with pictures, representing that progress. Now, a brief nugget on the concept. The army's imagery was to be inspired originally by the Horse warriors of the American plains during the Indian Wars. I was not going to draw on any one tribe, the thought being that, this is 40,000 years in to the future and any society that resembles that of the plains Indian probably doesn't reflect it exactly. I planed on having lots of feathers, bead and ribonwork, fetishes, and hides, with bold bits of the six primaries (Black, White, Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow) To avoid being too busy, I've decided to limit trim colors on each model to only two of the latter 4 colors. I've updated my profile picture to represent the army, as best I could manage it :) So now to the pictures. An overview of 2000 points of the army as it stands right now. It will be undergoing some changes. Namely, the scout snipers will probably not return to the table. The dreadnought will also take a backseat role with the terminators, which should leave me with only bikes, scout bikes, attack bikes, and Tactical Marines, backed up with a little bit of tank power, a pair of AC razors, two landspeeders, and a predator. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1687.jpg Next is a close-up of three members of the original command squad. I'm thrilled to get my mounted command squad back without having to use ravenwing rules, though the techmarine needs to strike out on his own now. These were three of the first converted models I did for this army, and all three are slated for serious updates, though mostly all the lib is going to get is a new left arm that actually holds the handlebars, and some paint touch up. The Tecchie is going to upgrade his bike shortly.... http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1688.jpg A picture of one of the earliest 'finished' bikers in the army. He used to be a space wolf and got re-painted. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1694.jpg A picture of a different semi finished model. Nnow a good view of the chapter badge this time. (biker A with the power fist never got his army colors... oops.) Note the face paint on the helmet. My goal is that each and every marine in the army have a different 'face' though some may be different color variations on the same pattern.... http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1690.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1691.jpg Here we have one of the Tactical Sergeants, and IMO one of my favorite models in the army currently. Which is sad, considering it's a bike army. But I really like how his paint job came out. Accompanying him on the right is the only fully painted terminator, and on the left the only finished scout model. While I'm satisfied with the termie, the scouts leave a lot to be desired. Currently, they're also on the bottom of the to do list.... http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1692.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1693.jpg A picture of my dreadnought. Not a lot of converting here, but I was really thrilled with the arm. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/Picture_0063.jpg Finally, my standard bearer, one of the more recent conversions I did. unfortunately I rushed him to get in to hardboyz (mistake!) and he needs some more work to get him where I want him. I want to rework the feather loop and the ribbon streamers. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/100_1689.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156856-the-sons-of-thunder/ Share on other sites
Cygnwulf
Ok, so only a minor update, I've already broken my intent and it's only week one! In my defense, though, I was told that I had to finish a different project for my mother, though, so I guess it does come first. I have had enough time to knock together a test build for my razorbacks. I haven't decided if I'm going to do this a a full scratch in the end or just as a mod to a real rhino. The inspiration for this beast was the old "Closeau" pattern rhino/razorback, from who knows how long ago. I never was quite satisfied with the MKII rhino, It looks good but I felt that it could look a little more like a land raider. What I've come up with doesn't have a name yet, and is still in the design phase, but I'm optimistic nonetheless. Only one track section was finished and the front detailing isn't done. With no further ado, what I have so far, http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/dbd96e18481f.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Cygnwulf/dc8ce658a89b.jpg I blacklined the edges of all the armor plates to improve contrast, as I was limited to using the camera on my phone to take them. I'm still up in the air with what to do about the exhaust. I feel that it would distract too much on the sides like in a normal rhino/razor. The original Closeau had a smaller version of the LR power plant on the back of it, but I feel that the Rhino really needs the rear exit. Also, I also have no idea what to do about the front armor. I'm open to suggestions on both. Currently, I intend to mount the stormbolter on the smaller round area on the top, but I'm also considering making it hull mounted (like the heavy bolter on guard tanks) The doors and turrets will be interchangeable, to swap on the fly. I will probably base them on the Land Raider's turret weapons (T/L heavy bolter or Assault cannon are bits directly, and it wouldn't be a thing to put lascannons in that mount.) Terminatorinhell
how did you make the assault cannon arm on your dread? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/156856-the-sons-of-thunder/#findComment-1845790 Share on other sites
